Burckart seeks re-election to Bentonville council
BENTONVILLE — Bill Burckart will seek re-election this fall for his Ward 3, Position 2 City Council seat.
Burckart was the only one to file for the position as of 5 p.m. Thursday. Filing closes at noon today for the Nov. 6 nonpartisan election.
Burckart, 52, was first elected to the council in 2009.
He wrote an open letter to the public thanking his supporters, city administration and staff, fellow council members and private developers for the work that’s made Bentonville what it is.
“We have come a long way, and there is still much more work to be done,” he wrote. “As we move forward, I will strive to make recommendations so our governing process will allow for more discussion within our government structure, with surrounding municipalities, for our citizens and businesses. Working together we can accomplish anything.”
Infrastructure and transportation need more attention, he said.
“Discussions need to continue on our future plans and financing of these critical items,” he said.
Burckart has lived in Bentonville for 49 years. He owns Burckart Construction, which has been developing in Bentonville for more than 30 years.
Burckart serves on the Animal Shelter Task Force and is a past president of the Arkansas Home Builders Association.
The city adopted new ward boundaries that will take effect Jan. 1. Candidates must live in the ward for which they’re seeking election based on the new boundaries.
Ward 3 will encompass all of the city south of Southwest 14th Street and west of Southwest I Street.
Council members are paid $711 a month.
