Must protect Buffalo
I think the first letter of Saturday, labeled “Protect environment,” is pure nonsense. The well-meaning lady who submitted it probably meant to convey somehow that the world would embrace her concerns. I believe only the United States and Canada care about it, and the rest of the world, starting with South America and including all of China, Russia, India, the Middle East, Africa, and possibly Australia couldn’t care a flip about the environment of the world, and they will never change.
The second letter, however, was real news and should cause a reaction, though that seems to not be popular. From the beginning, Arkansas has talked a lot but done nothing about the outrage concerning the future of the Buffalo River. From the beginning, it seems the protection of the Buffalo has been ignored by the state and I have wondered for several years what is really going on there. Somehow the Department of Environmental Quality has accomplished very little. Unquestionably the Buffalo is being polluted with what can only be pig poop, and no one is doing anything to stop it, although a group of well-intentioned citizens have, from the first, been trying to save the river. I am convinced that someone in authority or something is running interference for the polluters, but no one is talking.
Something stinks! This is the real story and it should be pursued. The group that has been fighting to stop it knows more about it than anyone else, but somehow they are being sidelined. The Buffalo River is one of our few treasures and somebody is killing it. Mr. Brad Taylor has done us all a great service by bringing this matter to our attention.
