Legacy Village meets the needs of elders in a unique home care setting

- BY KAREN RICE NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

Whether is it raising a child or caring for the elderly, it takes a village to help meet the needs of those around us who may not be able to completely care for themselves. Legacy Village is just such a village.

Administrator Billie Parsons points out that the goal of Legacy Village is to create the environment of a real home instead of an institutional setting.

“Family members often have reservations about moving their loved one from their own home to a care facility,” she said. “That’s where Legacy Village is different.”

“We are a home, a community, and a family,” she continued. “We are here to care for your loved one in their own environment.”

This concept and mindset is helping elders prolong the time in their life they can live independently.

“We strive to care for someone absolutely as long as we can within our scope of care. We would love for our elders to live out their lives here,” Billie said. “Our resident-to-staff ratio is 6-1 during the day and 10-1 at night. That is the level of attention residents need to live independently.”

The objective is always to return dignity and a sense of well-being to elders, while providing high-quality, personalized care.

“The results of our approach have been simple and profound,” Billie confirmed. “Elders are happier and healthier.”

In each building at Legacy Village there are 10 studio apartments ranging in size from 275-325 square feet, all with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. The apartments surround a hearth room with fireplace, a large open kitchen and family style dining room. The Legacy homes are designed to look and feel like real homes. Imagine watching hummingbirds on the patio as you have your coffee and eggs hot off the stove - just like home.

Rates are all inclusive – no extra charges for laundry, housekeeping, meals and snacks, clinical services and social and recreational activities. Residents provide their own furniture and decor. Residents who have spent down personal assets can receive assistance applying for public funding.

Legacy Village takes pride their ability to give elders the care needed, not just clinically, but mentally and emotionally, to sustain the quality of life they would have had in their home.

“I could go on and on about all the things that make Legacy Village Assisted Living great, but it’s better when you see it for yourself,” said Billie.
