Brashear seeks open seat on Rogers council

ROGERS — Mandy McDonald Brashear has joined a crowded race for the Ward 1 open seat on the City Council.

Three other candidates — Clint Hopper, Rick Stocker and Shawn Wright — have filed to run for the Position 1 seat.

Brashear said she wants to take a different perspective to the council.

“The Rogers Fire Department delivered my daughter unexpectedly in my home. They saved her life,” she said. “Through that I got to know the Fire Department, and I really got to learn more about what our public servants do for the people that live in the city.”

Brashear said she would bring diversity to the table because she is younger and has not lived in the city her whole life.

“In order to reflect the changing demographic of Rogers, we need people to be able to serve all types of residents,” Brashear said.

She wants to focus on infrastructure, the Police and Fire departments and to ensure all residents feel included in city affairs. It can sometimes be hard for residents to get involved in the city, and she wants to change that, Brashear said.

“For busy families, we have to make it easier for them to be heard,” she said. “I think it’s really important to have council members who are genuinely open to listening to different perspectives.”

Brashear said while she is a busy person, she wants to make time to be a part of the city and thinks others should do the same.

“If no one takes the time to invest and get involved, then that perspective won’t be represented,” she said.

City council terms last for four years and pay an annual salary of $9,511.

The nonpartisan election will be Nov. 6.
