EASTERN ILLINOIS VS. ARKANSAS: HOW WE SEE IT

-

CLAY HENRY, HAWGS ILLUSTRATED This will be a day to see a lot of Arkansas running backs turned loose in the new zone read offense. That’s probably a good thing with the offensive line still trying to come together. Arkansas 42-10

DUDLEY E. DAWSON, HAWGS ILLUSTRATED If Eastern Illinois had famous quarterback alums in Tony Romo or Jimmy Garoppolo under center, then this might be a game. But former Rogers sports great and current Eastern Illinois head coach Kim Dameron won’t have that type of signal caller and the Razorbacks roll in Chad Morris’ debut in Fayetteville. It’s #hammerdownleftlane vs. #allgasnobrakes. Arkansas 42-14

MATT JONES, WHOLE HOG SPORTS The FCS over FBS upsets typically are by veteran teams, and EIU has 13 starters back from a year ago and 47 players in their third, fourth or fifth seasons. I like Arkansas to win, but with the final score maybe less comfortable than the home crowd expects. Arkansas 27-18

BO MATTINGLY, SPORTS TALK WITH BO There may be questions about Arkansas and its new staff and new system, but I don’t have questions about how the Razorbacks will look against Eastern Illinois. This will be an exciting day for Hog fans as the Chad Morris era begins with a rout. Arkansas 45-7

HARRY KING, WHOLE HOG SPORTS All you need to know is the visitors are in the Football Championship Subdivision. The subplot involving the Arkansas quarterbacks is more intriguing. Arkansas 38-14

SCOTTIE BORDELON, WHOLE HOG SPORTS Arkansas has no issues with Eastern Illinois and is able to iron out a few things heading into its first road test under Chad Morris. I see one — possibly two — of the Razorbacks’ running backs having a big day. Arkansas 38-13

TOMMY CRAFT, ESPN ARKANSAS With so many questions around the offensive line, it is hard to predict a blowout in the first game of the Morris era, but I do expect Arkansas to show flashes of what they are capable of down the road. An ugly win is still a win. Arkansas 31-21

BART POHLMAN, SPORTS TALK WITH BO It’s hard to really know what to expect from Arkansas in Game 1 of the Chad Morris era. But against an inferior opponent like Eastern Illinois, which plays its first game against a Power 5 opponent since a 41-0 loss at Northwestern in 2015, one thing you can expect is points. Lots of points. After that, who knows? Arkansas 48-14

CHIP SOUZA, NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE The Chad Morris era opens with a rousing home win as three different quarterbacks have a hand in the scoring. Arkansas 34-14
