Is support for Trump disobedience to God?

-

Are Christians who voted for and continue to support Donald J. Trump disobedient to God?

Trump claims to be a Christian, but in 2015 when asked by Frank Luntz if he had asked God for forgiveness, he replied, “I am not sure I have. I just go and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so. I think, if I do something wrong, I think I just try to make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”

Most authentic Christians know if they’ve asked forgiveness.

Then in 2016, Jake Tapper asked him if he regretted saying he had never asked God for forgiveness. He stated, “No, I have great relationship with God … I like to be good. I don’t like to have to ask for forgiveness and I am good. I don’t do a lot of things that are bad; I try to do nothing that’s bad.”

He obviously doesn’t think he needs forgiveness because he has not sinned. He is “good.” Divorce, adultery, vulgar language, lying and bragging about fornication not withstanding, all while claiming, “I’m a religious person, I’m protestant, I’m a Presbyterian.”

“If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.” 1 John 1:6

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Trump obviously has not confessed his sins and therefore has not been forgiven nor cleansed of his unrighteousness.

“If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:10

So what does God want Christians to do with such a person? First Corinthians 5:11-13 says “you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? (Trump has been welcomed inside the church by numerous church leaders.) God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked person from among you.”

Are those injunctions to be understood as commands from God? If so, would disobedience be worth risking eternal life in the lake of fire? OREN PIPER Siloam Springs
