7 p.m. on The Good Place

NBC’s quirky and ingenious “morality comedy” reboots itself once again as it enters Season 3 with a one-hour premiere that is set, not in heaven or hell, but on Earth, as the four main characters — Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) — try to prove their stint in the Bad Place has changed them for the better. To that end, they’re discreetly abetted by Michael (Ted Danson), who is himself a redeemed demon.

7 p.m. on NFL Football

The Minnesota Vikings now have Kirk Cousins at quarterback and hope to put an offense on the field that compliments their excellent defense. They’ll need both when they visit Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams in a matchup of two of last year’s NFC Playoff teams. Last season, the second seeded Vikings advanced to the NFC Championship thanks to the “Minnesota Miracle” while the Rams went down in the Wild Card round.

7:31 p.m. on Young Sheldon

As the show moves into its regular time period, Sheldon (Iain Armitage) is so used to being the smartest guy in the room that he is thrown for a loop when he gets unexpected competition from another 10-year-old genius in the new “A Rival Prodigy and Sir Isaac Neutron.” Worse, Meemaw (Annie Potts) is forced to intervene when Sheldon is overcome with jealousy at how newcomer Paige (Mckenna Grace) charms Dr. Sturgis (Wallace Shawn).

9:05 p.m. on S.W.A.T.

In the aftermath of a literally explosive Season 1 finale, this action-driven drama series opens Season 2 with a major earthquake, which rocks Los Angeles in the premiere “Shaky Town.” While such a shockwave is never welcome, in this case the mega-tremor hits while the SWAT team is in the middle of a standoff with human traffickers who are holding several children as hostages. Elsewhere, Hondo (Shemar Moore) clicks with Deputy District Attorney Nia Wells (guest star Nikiva Dionne).
