VOLLEYBALL UAFS survives St. Edward’s
The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith held off a strong comeback bid by St. Edward’s on Saturday as the Lady Lions remained undefeated in Heartland Conference play with a 3-2 victory in Austin, Texas.
The Lady Lions (11-7, 2-0) won the match 26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10 as junior outside hitter Anna Demmer led the team with 19 kills, while sophomore hitter Erin Black had 16 and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Williams had 15. Sophomore setter Laryssa Correa and freshman setter Taylor Stoops had 31 and 27 assists, respectively.
UCA sweeps Houston Baptist
Haley Tippett had a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a 25-17, 25-11, 25-20 victory over Houston Baptist on Saturday in Conway.
Savanah Allen hit .588 with 10 kills and 2 blocks and Samantha Anderson added 9 kills and 3 blocks for the Bears (13-4, 3-1 Southland Conference.
Anderson, Eford lead ATU
Allie Anderson had 14 kills and hit .333, and Mackenzie Eford had 10 kills as Arkansas Tech University defeated East Central (Okla.) 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 on Saturday in Russellville. Emily Acker tallied a team-high 24 assists, and Delaney Saucier added 17 assists for the Golden Suns (12-7, 5-2 GAC).
Hardin keys Harding victory
Zoe Hardin had 11 kills, hit .579 and had a season-high 8 blocks to power Harding University to a 25-14, 25-10, 25-9 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Searcy.
Emily Clayton had 10 kills for the Bisons (12-6, 7-0 GAC).
Kruse leads SAU in loss
Lexie Kruse had 44 assists and 12 digs to lead Southern Arkansas University in a 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Magnolia.
Bailey Cagle had 11 kills and 3 blocks, and Camryn Bihary had 21 digs for the Muleriders (6-13, 1-6 GAC).
HSU sweeps Southern Nazarene
Zuzana Ondruskova had 12 digs and 10 kills, and Adrianna Hartman added 10 kills and 5 blocks for Henderson State in a 25-16, 26-24, 25-10 victory over Southern Nazarene on Saturday in Arkadelphia.
Setters Abby Blackburn and Taylor Scalzi combined for 37 assists for the Reddies (17-3, 6-1 GAC).
Shanks, Kelley power Lyon
Michayla Shanks had 18 kills and Kendra Kelley 14 to lead Lyon College in a 25-15, 24-26, 25-14 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday in the Hannibal-LaGrange Tri-Match in Springfield, Mo.
