Shouldn’t be a judge
We saw the real Brett Kavanaugh Thursday, and it was ugly. He had a difficult time being confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court in the first place because of his background as a purely political operative during the Clinton and the second Bush administration. He was groomed and prepared as a far-right political operator by the deep-pocket dark money interests that Jane Mayer describes in detail in her book Dark Money.
His slobbering outrage, making wild accusations about a partisan Democratic conspiracy against him and even invoking the Clintons in the conspiracy, and his inability to contain his rage, shouting and interrupting senators who were questioning him: All of this is precisely what one would expect of a man who has spent his entire career and the money of powerful right-wing individuals and groups who invested in him to obtain this seat on the Supreme Court, thereby completing the far-right takeover of all three branches of government. His anger, his outrage and self-pity were real. And I believe they show precisely who he is: an ugly, true-believing farright political operator full of righteous indignation at the possibility that he could be forced to reckon with his past behavior and believes he and his backers are entitled to a seat on the Supreme Court.
I believe he is clearly a mean drunk. He is also clearly just plain mean and truly unhinged when his sense of entitlement is challenged. He demonstrated Thursday why he should not be a judge at all, much less a Supreme Court justice. DAVID SIPPEL
