Candidates hold forums

Candidates for city, county and state elective offices will be able to share their respective visions for a better Arkansas during five town halls slated next month at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

The events, hosted by the UAFS chapter of the American Democracy Project, are part of the organizati­on’s efforts to boost civic engagement on campus and in the community.

The town halls are scheduled for the following dates:

■ Oct. 8: Candidates for Arkansas House District 77, noon, Windgate Art & Design Theater

■ Oct. 8: Candidates for Fort Smith board of directors (at-large position 5), 6 p.m., Windgate Art & Design Theater

■ Oct. 11: Candidates for Arkansas attorney general*, noon, Smith-Pendergraf­t Campus Center Reynolds Room ■ Oct. 15: Chairperso­ns of the Arkansas Democratic and Republican parties to discuss the role of political parties in the electoral process, noon, the Smith-Pendergraf­t Campus Center Reynolds Room

■ Oct. 31: Candidates for Sebastian County judge, noon, Smith-Pendergraf­t Campus Center Reynolds Room

*Due to a scheduling conflict, Republican incumbent Leslie Rutledge will not be able to attend this town hall. Only the Democratic and Libertaria­n candidates for attorney general will be participat­ing.
