AETN to broadcast state championsh­ips

The Arkansas Educationa­l Television Network (AETN) in partnershi­p with the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n will broadcast the 2018 Class 2A-7A high school football state championsh­ip games.

AETN executive director Courtney Pledger and AAA associate executive director and media relations director Derek Walter announced the partnershi­p in a news conference Monday. The games will be held Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8-9. Also, the state basketball championsh­ips, which are held in March in Hot Springs, will be televised by AETN.

AETN is available statewide on the following channels: KETS in Little Rock, KEMV in Mountain View, KETG in Arkadelphi­a, KAFT in Fayettevil­le, KTEJ in Jonesboro and KETZ in El Dorado.

Games will be archived at aetn.org/sports after they’ve been aired live.

OBU’s Brown earns GAC honor

Ouachita Baptist University running back Brockton Brown was named offensive player of the week by the Great American Conference on Monday.

Brown rushed 8 times for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 58-21 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.

MEN’S GOLF ASU third in Florida

Arkansas State University shot a 284 in the second round and trails South Florida by five strokes and North Florida by four strokes going into today’s final round of the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitation­al in Vero Beach, Fla.

South Florida leads with a 558, followed by North Florida (559) and Arkansas State (563). The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is tied for 10th with Texas State at 582 after a second-round 290.

Individual­ly, Arkansas State’s Zan Luka Stirn is tied for seventh with a 138 after a second-consecutiv­e 69. Joel Wendin is tied for ninth with a 139 after a second-round 68.

Aaron Ramos and Marcel Rauch of UALR are tied for 19th with a 143.

UCA’s Smith 16th in Louisiana

University of Central Arkansas sophomore Miles Smith is tied for 16th place after two rounds of the Louisiana Tech Jim Rivers Intercolle­giate on Monday in Choudrant, La.

Smith had rounds of 71 and 73 on Monday for an even-par 144, and is tied with two players from Cincinnati and one from Georgia.

As a team, Central Arkansas is tied for eighth place with Troy at 590. Alabama-Birmingham leads with a 556 while Georgia is two strokes back.

The third round is set for today.

Henderson State leads in Missouri

Trey DePriest shot a 68 to lead the field and help put Henderson State University in first place after the first round at the Blue Tiger Invite in Jefferson City, Mo.

Kevin Boutier is in second place with a 71, and Mitchell Ford is tied for ninth with a 73 for the Reddies.

The Reddies lead with a 289, holding an eight-stroke advantage over Lindenwood (Mo.).

The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, will conclude today as a 36-hole event after weather postponed Monday’s second round.

Arkansas Tech’s Jacobs tied for third

Andre Jacobs of Arkansas Tech University is tied for third after two rounds of the TVA Credit Union Invitation­al in Killen, Ala.

Jacobs shot a 140 (68-72) and is tied with Baker Payne of Stetson, Chance Watson of Appalachia­n State and Jackson Wedgeworth of North Alabama.

Arkansas Tech’s Trevor Brunson is in ninth place with a 142 (74-68), and Francois Jacobs is tied for 13th with a 145 (7273).

As a team, the Wonder Boys are in second place with a 573 (294-289), six shots back of Jacksonvil­le State.

VOLLEYBALL UALR’s Marin recognized

Veronica Marin of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was named defensive player of the week by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.

Marin had 9 kills in a victory over Louisiana-Monroe, and she had 8 kills and 9 blocks in a victory against Louisiana-Lafayette.

ASU’s May wins Sun Belt award

Carlisa May of Arkansas State University was named offensive player of the week by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.

May had 31 kills in helping the Red Wolves sweep Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe.

Two ATU players earn GAC awards

Arkansas Tech University’s Hunter Eshnaur and Emily Acker were named offensive player of the week and setter of the week by the Great American Conference on Monday, while Ouachita Baptist University’s Adrianna Nolly was named defensive player of the week.

Eshnaur had 18 kills and 17 digs in a victory over Oklahoma Baptist. She had 14 kills and 11 digs against Southern Nazarene.

Acker had 44 assists against Oklahoma Baptist, and 39 assists and 8 digs against Southern Nazarene.

Nolly had 13 blocks in a five-set victory over Northweste­rn Oklahoma State and Southweste­rn Oklahoma State.
