■ Edwin Sims, accused of pulling alongside a beer truck and loading cases of beer into his SUV while the delivery driver was inside an Indianola, Miss., store, was arrested after he slammed into two cars as he tried to flee, spilling some of the stolen suds, police said.

■ Tracy Lehman, who grows industrial hemp near Indian Mound, Tenn., reported being shot at while chasing thieves off his property twice in one day but says he doesn’t know what the trespasser­s planned to do with the plants, which contain only a fraction of the psychoacti­ve chemical found in marijuana.

■ Donna Francis, 38, an unregister­ed British beautician, faces being extradited to the United States for a trial on charges that she killed a woman in 2015 by illegally injecting silicone into the woman’s buttocks at a house in Queens, N.Y.

■ Jerry Brown, 80, who’ll leave office as California’s governor in January, has been named executive chairman of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, the group known for its Doomsday Clock that measures manmade threats to human existence, such as nuclear weapons and climate change.

■ James Dunaway, 43, a former Nashville, Tenn., police sergeant convicted of stealing more than $100,000 while executing five search warrants, was sentenced to two years in federal prison, prosecutor­s said.

■ Ivan Zamora, a Cuban citizen living in Florida, pleaded guilty to smuggling three Cuban women through Mexico into the United States and forcing them to work at strip clubs to pay off the cost of the trip, federal prosecutor­s in Miami said.

■ Megan Luloff, a firstgrade teacher in Walcott, Iowa, is facing disciplina­ry action after pictures appeared on social media of her wearing blackface makeup at a Halloween party held at an American Legion post, school district officials said. ■ Tarvares Hargrave, 43, was arrested on drug-traffickin­g charges after airport police in Raleigh, N.C., said they saw him take a package from two men that he thought contained cocaine but that laboratory tests show held “10 bars of Ivory soap wrapped in thick plastic wrap.”

■ James Anthony, a hearing-impaired man who has worked as a school janitor in Tullahoma, Tenn., for nearly 30 years, was caught by surprise on his 60th birthday when a kindergart­en class sang the “Happy Birthday” song for him using American Sign Language.
