Rethink wage issue

-

I have been trying to rethink the minimum-wage issue, especially after reading that wages are falling at a time of record growth. Politicians run ads advocating raising the minimum wage. These ads tell how much better off people will be if this were to happen. I think most of them know this is untrue. If they really want to help lower-income people, they would be advocating for programs that help them get more education and/or training. I still believe this is the only way to get a better job.

Then I started thinking that by raising the minimum wage, other wages would also raise and maybe that is the only way people can get a raise. However, the same thing will hold true for them. Besides pushing up wages, all costs would rise—housing, automobile, products and services. Everyone would end up exactly where they started out.

Cutting taxes resulted in growth in the economy, but the increase is going to capital owners and the people at the top of income distribution. All the time that wages are falling, the national debt is going up. It is a fact that we need to face. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The main reason for this is that corporations are not using their money to expand or raise wages. The money is being used to increase their stock price. Business will always do what is in its best interest. The individual must depend on our representative government to protect ours. It is my opinion that it is not doing a very good job.
