Razorbacks ride 11-0 start to defeat UC-Davis.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — The Arkansas Razorbacks made the University of California-Davis play catch-up from the start on Monday night at Walton Arena.

The Aggies never could, and the University of Arkansas pulled away to beat UC-Davis 81-58 after scoring the first 11 points.

Arkansas (1-1) won its 45th consecutiv­e home opener after losing to Texas 73-71 on Friday at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

The Razorbacks last home loss in a home opener was to Western Kentucky 102-100 on Dec. 3, 1973, in Lanny Van Eman’s final season as Arkansas coach.

After Arkansas jumped ahead 11-0, the Aggies didn’t pull any closer than five points, 31-26, for the rest of the game.

Sophomore guard Mason Jones led the Razorbacks with 21 points. Arkansas junior forward Adrio Bailey scored a career-high 20 points.

Bailey hit his first career three-point basket and 9 of

free throws. His previous career scoring high was 15 points against Samford last season.

Arkansas freshman guard Isaiah Joe scored 14 points, and sophomore forward Daniel Gafford scored 12.

Senior guard AJ Shorts led the Aggies with 14 points.

UC-Davis (0-3) lost at home to San Francisco 76-42 and 76-57 to San Diego before playing at Arkansas.

Bailey’s three-pointer put Arkansas ahead 58-42 with 8:40 left.

The Aggies cut their deficit to 63-54 with 5:17 left on Siler Schneider’s three-pointer. Arkansas then put UC-Davis away for good and pushed its lead to 74-55 with 2:54 remaining on two free throws by Bailey.

Garrison Goode hit a jump shot in the lane to pull UC-Davis within 37-30 with 53 seconds left in the first half.

The Razorbacks jumped out to an 11-0 lead, including a pair of three-pointers from Jones and two baskets by Bailey and a free throw by Reggie

Chaney, with 14:32 left in the first half.

UC-Davis, which started 0 of 5 from the field with 4 turnovers, finally scored at the 13:50 mark when AJ John hit a three-pointer to make it 11-3.

The Razorbacks pushed their lead to 15-5 on Gafford’s dunk, but Joe Mooney’s three-pointer cut the lead to 15-8.

Arkansas moved ahead 2512 as Jones hit a three-pointer and scored on a layup after Joe made a steal and passed ahead for a fast-break basket.

Stefan Gonzalez’s three-pointer pulled the Aggies within 26-17 with 5:49 left in the half.

Joe hit a layup and a three-pointer to push the Razorbacks’ lead to 31-17.
