Failing schools in city

-

Speaking phenomenologically, children are a part of our mass society; there are co-culture groups and the dominant culture group, but I believe some blacks/African Americans still have the mentality that stems from back during the Jim Crow era. I believe this is why the Little Rock School District is still able to function like it was in Governor Faubus’ era.

How do you expect a teacher to teach when they’re consistently having to address the children’s behavior? This is not the teacher’s job to teach the children values, morals and integrity. Parents work hard to try and make ends meet, but children living in the hood become a product of their environment. Parents need to be held accountable for their child’s behavior.

I am not holier than thou. I feel the parent should go to the streets and get to know the nicknames of your children’s associates like Fast Money and Little Deuce. I literally went to the streets to let my son know that I was with him every step of the way and that I knew he would stay uncompromising in any situation. Parents, go get your children; we are soldiers for God.

When the state Department of Education took over the Little Rock School District, there were only six failing schools, and now 22 are failing schools and the state wants to blame it on the teachers. The state needs to re-evaluate how it is handling the failing school crisis in the Little Rock School District. Also, it seems like the failing schools are only in the “low socioeconomic communities.”

Furthermore, I am writing my memoirs. I’m titling it Beloved is Black, Blind and a Bastard Born in Arkansas, and my story is not over yet. MARQUITTA J. CORBIN Conway
