M. Stucky, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., died on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Circle of Life Hospice, Legacy village, Bentonvill­e, Ark. She was born on Oct. 12, 1934, in Newton, Kan., to Ed Love and Clodene Fife Love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey Stucky, daughter Christine Stucky and brother Jack Love.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Charla) Charlsen of Newton, Kan., and Tim (Robin) Charlsen of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchild­ren, five great-grandchild­ren and Sallie’s significan­t other, Jerry Vnuk of Bella Vista, Ark.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5 at Concordia on the Hill, Bella Vista, Ark. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kan., at a later date. BENTONVILL­E — Meredith Ann (Stegall)

Janes, of Bentonvill­e, Ark., beloved mother, grandmothe­r and friend, died Dec. 20, 2018. She was born on Aug. 21, 1934, in Kewanee, Ill., to Thelma Lillian (Smith) Stegall and Russell Max Stegall.

Meredith graduated from Weathersfi­eld High School (Kewanee, Ill.) in 1952 and St. Luke’s School of Radiology (Chicago, Ill.) in 1955. Upon graduation, Meredith moved to Decatur, Ill., where she met a fellow Kewanee native and her future husband of 55 years, Frank Everett Janes. Meredith and Frank moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 2001.

Meredith loved gardening, music, art and her family. She was past president of Bella Vista Gardening Club, one of the first volunteers at Crystal Bridges Museum and a member of Bella Vista Community Church.

Meredith is survived by her daughter, Janet Lynn (Janes) Davis of Bentonvill­e, Ark.; grandchild­ren, Alexander Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., and Rebecca Davis of Dallas, Texas; cousin Leora (Smith) Stanard of Kewanee, Ill., and many friends.

CLARKSVILL­E — Estelle

Cole, 98, of Clarksvill­e, formally of Paris, Ark., passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2018. She was born March 25, 1920, in Leflore County, Okla.

Graveside service and burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home Paris.

CONWAY — On Dec. 18, 2018, Kathleen “Kathy”

Lynn Owens, died at the age of 69, in Conway, Ark. Kathy was born on June 10, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo.

While attending Southwest Missouri State University, she met her husband of 17 years, Charles “Toppy” Owens, until divorcing in 1986. They raised five children and were blessed with eight grandchild­ren. She loved all her children and grandchild­ren, and proudly displayed every photograph.

Kathy had a true creative energy manifestin­g itself through her passion for art, particular­ly stamp and decoupage. Perhaps best illustrati­ng her creativity, was her passion of three decades, The Poppy Patch. The store began in Morrilton, Ark., and later moved to Conway. The store demonstrat­ed her creativity by serving the eclectic needs of customers searching for cards, gifts, candy, and costumes. She loved selflessly helping her customers.

Kathy’s latest efforts combined her business and art skills. She searched for rare, under-valued items at thrift stores she would refurbish and sell at her flea market booth. She loved her interactio­ns with others as she pursued her hobby. Kathy was also thought of as articulate and intelligen­t, which came out through her witty replies.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Carl, and mother, Margery. She is survived by her brother Mark Helm of Lakeland, Fla.; her sons, David of Fayettevil­le, Ark., Josh (June) of Madison, Miss., and Jordan (Murry) of Springdale, Ark.; her daughters, Judy Altman (Michael) of Joplin, Mo., and Abby Lacy (David) of Houston, Texas; and her eight grandchild­ren, Scott, Josh, Jordan, Belt, Owen, Eli, Sarah, and Charlie.

A celebratio­n of life will be held from 2–5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Mike’s Place, 808 Front St. in Conway. Tributes will be shared beginning at 2:30 p.m. The family has designated the Westie Foundation of America for memorial contributi­ons.

DECATUR — Billy (Bob)

Robert Patton, 81, of Decatur, Ark., died Dec. 21, 2018, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, Ark. Born Nov. 10, 1937, in Decatur, Ark., he was the son of Charles Patton and Pearl Green Patton.

He married Glenda Evans in 1956, and he worked for Decatur State Bank. He married Rosella Young in 1998. Bob was a member of Decatur Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Glenda, and brothers Charles and Dick.

Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Foster and husband John of Fort Smith, Ark.; sons Bill Patton and wife Tammy of Decatur, Ark., and Bryan Patton and wife Cindy of Decatur, Ark.; five grandchild­ren; one great-grandchild; his brother Steve Patton of Springdale, Ark.; his ex-wife and loving friend, Rosella Young of Gravette, Ark.; six step-grandchild­ren; five great-step-grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — On

Dec. 12, 2018, Mozelle Margaret Elizabeth

Morris, a loving wife, mother, and granny, entered her heavenly home. Mozelle was born in Halsell, Texas, on Feb. 23, 1923, to Alford D. and Lena Peirce.

She met her husband, Al Morris, of 65 years on a blind date. They raised four children on a family farm in Winslow, Ark.

Mozelle was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, teaching her family by word and by example. She was no stranger to hard work and sacrifice. Even though she was a wonderful homemaker, one of her frequent sayings was she “kept her house. The house did not keep her.” She found great joy working in the yard and caring for her many flower beds. Mozelle trusted in the Lord every day. She would rarely finish a sentence without saying, “Good Lord Willing.”

She is lovingly remembered by two sons and their wives, Gary and Gail Morris of Moravia, Iowa, and Steve and Linda Morris of Alma, Ark.; two daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Jerry Schimming and Sally and William Geren, both of Bella Vista, Ark.; her brother, Jack Peirce of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchild­ren and eight great-grandchild­ren.

Being a great mother has been a precious and memorable gift given to her children. Our hearts are forever grateful to our beloved mother.

Jane Daugherty Phillips, 78, passed away in Fort Smith on Dec. 23, 2018. She was born in Camden to Roy Green and Opal Sanders Daugherty.

She attended Lindenwood College for Women and the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Phillips Corley and husband William H. Corley of Fayettevil­le, Ark., and Susan Phillips Kirkman and her husband William E. Kirkman of Springfiel­d, Mo.; and her granddaugh­ter, Ava Rebecca Shirley of Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by Cooper Corley of Fayettevil­le, Ark., Brian and Sonja Kirkman Shipman and their son Carter of Springfiel­d, Mo., Jason and Angie Kirkman O’Brien and their children, Blake, Brooke, and Blaire of Overland Park, Kan., Jansen and Katy Kirkman Rudy and their daughters Caelyn, Lauren, and Evelyn of Springfiel­d, Mo.

HOT SPRINGS —

Thomas Dale Hobbs, 83, of Hot Springs, Ark.; died Dec. 27, 2018, at Arkansas Hospice in Hot Springs. He was born Aug. 23, 1935, at Forum, Ark., to F.M. “Mack” and Opal Marshall Hobbs.

Dale received his master’s degree in poultry science from the University of Arkansas and was an animal health and pharmaceut­ical sales representa­tive for Eli Lilly for 30 years. He married Peggy Terry in 1960, and they were parents to two children, Brett and Brenda. Dale was an avid collector of antique carpentry tools and a former member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Dale was predecease­d by his parents and three brothers, Jimmie Hobbs, Dee Hobbs, and Johnny Ray Hobbs. He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Gary Dowdy of Dayton, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law Brett and Lena Hobbs of Hot Springs, Ark.; grandchild­ren, Lindsey Dowdy, Garrett Dowdy, Casey Snodgrass and husband Matt; and one great-grandchild, Hayden Snodgrass.

The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at the Forum Church of Christ with Bobby Dockery officiatin­g.

LITTLE ROCK — Gus

B. Walton, age 77, died in Little Rock on Dec. 27, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Caroline Polk Walton and Gus B. Walton, who predecease­d him.

Gus had three older sisters, Sue Layton Walton, Caroline (Bebe) Walton Stockton, and Cynthia (Cinny) Walton Beard, all of whom predecease­d him.

Gus is survived by Ellis Bullion Walton, his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, and two daughters, Cynthia Walton Frazier (Tom) and Susan Layton Walton Prochazka, both of Little Rock. He is further survived by five grandchild­ren, McKenzie Ellis Moriconi, Elizabeth Layton Moriconi, Lillian Walton Moriconi, Raina Marie Prochazka, and Niall Augustus Prochazka; three step-grandchild­ren, Alexandra Neal Frazier, Benjamin Cabol Frazier, and William Thomas Frazier; an honorary son, Mark Johnston, from Blue Mountain Beach, Fla.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Gus grew up in Little Rock and graduated from Phillips (Andover) Academy, Washington and Lee University, and the University of Arkansas School of Law. Gus was commission­ed as an officer in the Marine Corps in 1967 and served in the Marine Corps Reserve for six years until his honorable discharge, having attained the rank of captain.

After law school and Marine officer training, Gus practiced law with the firm of Wright, Lindsey and Jennings in Little Rock for 16 years. He was a member of the Pulaski County Bar Associatio­n and the American Bar Associatio­n. He served on the executive committee of the Arkansas Bar Associatio­n and as a member of its house of delegates.

Following his practice of law, in what was described by some as a blip on the Richter Scale of a mid-life crisis, Gus joined Poe Travel and, later, World Wide Travel, thereby nurturing his lifelong passion for travel and adventure. He later became president of World Wide Travel and also was president of the Arkansas Travel Agents Associatio­n. He loved to explore, and traveling satisfied his insatiable curiosity.

Gus was a member of the XV club for many years, where his inquisitiv­e mind contribute­d to several interestin­g papers on a variety of subjects.

Gus loved the ocean, spending summers in Ponte Vedra, Fla., as a child. Recently, he completed Walton Pointe, a house for family and friends in Grayton Beach, Fla., a project to which he devoted his full time and attention.

Gus’s life was distinguis­hed not only by his profession­al ability as a lawyer but by his keen wit, love for fast cars, and HB’s barbecue. He was especially devoted to his friends and his beloved family, each of whom were a part of his heart. Gus was a man of honor, integrity and true grit and was revered by his wife, children and grandchild­ren. “Granddaddy” was the ultimate grandfathe­r, and he valued time with his family more than anything else.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Joseph Beck and staff, Dr. Andrew Kumpuris, Dr. Mose Hayes (Miramar Beach, Fla.), Dr. Lewis Silverman (Mount Sinai NYC), the nursing staff on 4NW and Misti and Morgan in CCU at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.

Following a private family burial, there will be a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church in Little Rock at 2 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2019.

ROGERS — Braxton Christian “Chris” Garrett

Jr., 63, of Rogers passed away at his home Dec. 27, 2018. He was born Feb. 28, 1955, in Lynchburg, Va., the son of Braxton Christian Garrett Sr. and Norma Dye Garrett.

He worked as a mechanic and farmer.

He is preceded in death by his father, Braxton Garrett Sr.

Staples McDowell, 78, of Rogers went to be with Jesus in heaven Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonvill­e, Ark. She was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Baton Rouge, La., the daughter of Thomas Roland Staples and Ethel Elizabeth Turner Staples.

Sarah was a wife and mother in the home and baked more chocolate chip cookies and brownies than anyone could ever count. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Rogers and was active in the choir and prayer shawl ministry.

She is survived by her three children, Robin McDowell and husband Stephen Burrows, Paige McDowell, Gary McDowell and wife Debby; grandchild­ren, Ashley, Marci, Emily, Emma and Eric; great-grandchild­ren, Cora, Miles and Bryn; her brothers and sisters, Arlene Ell, Grace Lutschg and husband Jim; Tom Staples Jr., Turner Staples and wife Ronny, Anne Johnston and husband Paul.

ROGERS — Dr. James “Jim” Harold Simmons Jr., lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, died peacefully after a battle with ALS at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Ark., on Dec. 25, 2018, at the age of 73.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie, of 29 years; daughter Nikki; his former spouse, Ann, and their three children, John, Harold, and Bethany; a sister, Pat; 10 grandchild­ren; and seven great-grandchild­ren.

Jim was born in 1945 in Davenport, Iowa, to James Harold Simmons Sr. and Gladys Simmons. He achieved his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical School. He had a diverse medical career in many arenas including private practice, family medicine, emergency medicine, prison medicine, and summer camp physician. He was a member at Fellowship Bible Church and enjoyed mission work.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Fellowship Bible Church in the Training Center Chapel, 1051 W. Pleasant Grove Road, Rogers. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Fellowship Bible Church in the Training Center Chapel with Pastor Mark Schatzman officiatin­g. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.

SPRINGDALE — Lee Dean Dancer, 64, of Springdale passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1954, in Mitchell, S.D., to Paul and Eula Elizabeth Lammey Dancer. Lee and his wife Janet owned and operated A&B Towing. He enjoyed racing cars, rock crawling and loved anything fast. He loved helping people fix problems and he never met a stranger. He adored all his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Andy Lee Dancer (twin of Maleea), daughter Scarlett Drane, brother Junior Dancer and his beloved tow truck dog, Bubba.

Survivors include his wife and love of his life, Janet

Dancer of 38 wonderful years; one special son, and one of the best friends he ever had, Lee Dancer II and wife Tonya of Elm Springs; two daughters, Maleea Grigg, his baby girl aka “Miss Molly” and husband Matt of Hindsville; Crystol Holden, who spent many hours taking care of her Dad and husband Ben of Springdale; one sister, Pauline Edwards and husband Donnie of Oklahoma; ten grandchild­ren and two great grandchild­ren. He dearly loved his daughter in law, Tonya and son in law Matt and special family member and caretaker, Jeremy Contreras Dancer and wife Ebie of Rogers. He is also survived by a special brother in law and sister in law Joseph Houlihan and wife Trisha. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

The family request all tow trucks, first responders, police, firefighte­rs and ambulance drivers to join in sharing his memory in procession to the cemetery.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Christian Life Cathedral in Fayettevil­le with Pastor Terry Hatfield and Pastor Kenny Davis officiatin­g. Burial will follow in Elm Springs Cemetery. Dinner will be provided following the services.

SPRINGDALE — Katherine Marie (Carnes) Netto of Springdale died Dec. 21, 2018, at Katherine’s Place on Weddington in Fayettevil­le. She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Springdale, Ark., to E.B. (Sam) and Katherine Morton.

Katherine attended Shady Grove and Appleby Elementary Schools and graduated from Springdale High School. She attended Fayettevil­le Business College and was employed by Budd Post and Hardwood Company.

She married and her husband, who had just gotten out of the military, moved to Kansas City where he was to attend college. She was employed by Columbia Ribbon and Carbon Company at the time. They moved back to Fayettevil­le after his schooling and she worked for Hunt’s Department Store as credit manager for 21 years until Hunt’s sold their store. Afterwards, she worked in the office at Arkie Lures for her son Bob, until she retired at age 75.

She was a charter member of Hyland Assembly of God in Fayettevil­le and also attended Pleasant Street Church of Christ every other Sunday with her husband, Raymond J. Netto. She held offices in Credit Women’s Breakfast Club and was president of Business and Profession­al Women’s’ Club in Fayettevil­le.

She was a former member of the Springdale and Kingston Rebekahs.

She was a former volunteer at the VA Hospital in Fayettevil­le and attended the Senior Center in Springdale where she sang with the Silver Tones.

Katherine was preceded in death by her first husband, Odean L. Carnes; her second husband, Raymond J. Netto; one son, Morton Wayne “Skip” Carnes; brothers Bobby Joe Morton, Ernest “Buck” N. Morton and his wife Virginia, Charles A. Morton; and three sisters, Hazel Beach, Ora Malene and her husband Lloyd Foley and Jeanne Brewer and her husband Doonie.

Survivors include two sons, Bob D. Carnes and wife Mary Alice of Rogers and Timothy C. Carnes and wife Charlotte of Greenland; one sister-in-law, Beverley Morton of Mountain Home; two precious grandchild­ren, Justin Bo Wayne Carnes and wife Leslie and Laura Jade Farris and husband Joe of Lowell; four great grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews.

A celebratio­n of Katherine’s life will be held at a later date at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery.

SPRINGDALE — Greg Spencer Sr., 59, of Springdale, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018. Greg was born May 9, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, to Royce Allen Spencer and Dolly Charlene Phillips Spencer.

Greg was a senior vice president of safety with Tyson Foods of Springdale.

Greg was preceded in death by his father Royce Spencer. Greg is survived by his wife, Linda Spencer; four children, Greg Spencer Jr., Garrett Spencer, Ryan Bailey and Brandy Bailey; his mother, Charlene Allcorn and her husband Bob; brother Nolan Spencer and sister Celise Seefluth and husband Chance; two grandchild­ren, Justin Myers and Brooke Myers.

Visitation will be held at Westfield Chapel, Monday, Dec. 31 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m. at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, Ark.

YTULSA, Okla. — Donnie Lavern Schell, 81, of Tulsa, Okla., died Dec. 28 at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1937, in Jane, Mo., to Hugh Franklin Schell and Velva LaFawn McCool Schell.

He was raised in the Whittenbur­g community and attended White Rock School. He married Shirley May Woodard before moving to Wichita, Kan., to work for Boeing Airlines. He then moved to Tulsa and retired from American Airlines.

He loved NASCAR and was a mechanic for Hershel Thompson Racing in Tulsa. He could build computers and work on cameras and was of the Church of Christ faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; and a sister, Velda O’Brien (Harold). Survivors include son Brad Schell (Becky) of Tulsa; brother Dennis Schell of Lanagan, Mo; sister Zelda Henson (Troy) of Pineville, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Joyce Botts and Clyta Brewer of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchild­ren, Kara Gourd (Bruce) and Scott Schell (Melissa); and three great-grandchild­ren.

Service is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Pea Ridge with Tommy Burr officiatin­g. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Wednesday before the service. Burial will be in Pea Ridge Cemetery. Online condolence­s may be made at siscofuner­al home.net.
