Winter Wonderful At Museum

- — JOCELYN MURPHY JMURPHY@NWADG.COM

Crystal Bridges Museum’s signature program Winter Break Wonders continues through Jan. 4, giving families an excuse to get out of the house and engage their kids’ creativity and imagination from 1 to 4 p.m. every day, except New Year’s Day.

Two performance highlights coming this week are Mr. Steve, The Music Man, who creates socially conscious music for children, and Storybook Strings, a local quartet whose shows involve music, literature and even a little bit of science.

“I’m really looking forward to the energy Mr. Steve, The Music Man is going to bring,” shares associate museum educator Chloe Burgett of the Jan. 4 show. “He’s really thoughtful in the kind of music that he writes, and I really just want to meet him!

“And Storybook Strings, they have that in common, they’re both really thoughtful,” she adds of the quartet, performing Jan. 2 “Storybook Strings will read a story as they’re playing different instruments. And what I’ve heard parents talk about is the coolest thing is that their children get exposed to these really high class instruments, and sometimes that is all it takes to make someone want to be a musician. I think it’s really inspiring. And they also bring a lot of fun energy.”

Performances like these, art projects, movement activities and, of course, family-centric gallery tours and talks continue every day this week. Visit the event’s Facebook page for a full schedule of each day’s specific activities.
