PREP BASKETBALL BOYS

Fayettevil­le 72, Humboldt, Tenn. 55

The Purple Bulldogs bounced back from a tough semifinal loss to claim third place in the 32nd annual Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Showdown on Saturday.

Fayettevil­le (9-3) outscored Humboldt 25-5 in the third quarter to turn a three-point halftime lead to a 55-37 advantage heading into the fourth quarter and cruised to the victory.

Junior Conner Barnett led the way with a career-high 18 points, while sophomore Tamaury Releford added 15 and Isaiah Releford chipped in 10 for Fayettevil­le. Bentonvill­e 39, Memphis (Tenn.) Craigmont 29

Bentonvill­e held Craigmont to just one field goal over the first 13 minutes of the second half Saturday as the Tigers won the Black Division championsh­ip game of the Neosho (Mo.) Holiday Classic.

The Tigers (10-3) took advantage of the Chiefs’ dry spell as Bentonvill­e stretched a two-point halftime lead into a 32-21 cushion after Michael Shanks’ two free throws with 6:41 remaining. Craigmont (6-7) ended the Tigers’ run on a bucket by Antonio Johnson with 3:46 left to play, but the Chiefs couldn’t get any closer than seven.

Shanks had 15 points, including a dunk to seal the scoring with 35 seconds remaining, while Connor Deffebaugh added 14 for Bentonvill­e, which limited a patient Craigmont team to 11 of 34 shooting while hitting 13 of 24 shots. Caleb Mosley had nine to lead Craigmont.

Bentonvill­e returns to action next week when the Tigers open 6A-West Conference play against Springdale Har-Ber. eStem Charter 60, Bentonvill­e West 54

eStem outscored West 27-17 in the fourth quarter to erase a four-point deficit and win the boys Gold Bracket seventh-place game Saturday during the Neosho (Mo.) Holiday Classic.

Laityn Sheppard, a 6-foot-7, 275-pound junior forward, scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had four assists to pace the Mets (13-7). Sophomore guard Mekhi Perkins had 16 points on 5 of 17 shooting with four 3-pointers and junior guard Dylan Sewell added 11 points.

West (6-7) was led by tournament 3-point champion Dawson Bailey, who scored 14 points but was only 2 of 8 from behind the 3-point line. His brother Dillon Bailey added 10 points on 3 of 7 shooting from the behind the 3-point line. Bishop McGuinness 52, Rogers Heritage 50

The War Eagles led 25-18 at halftime but couldn’t hold on for the win in the third-place game Saturday at the Enid Holiday Classic.

Heritage (5-7) was outscored 22-16 in the fourth quarter as Bishop McGuiness rallied for the win. Logan Clines led a balanced scoring attack for the War Eagles with 11. Tyler Furuseth and Kyle Ingram had 10 each and Jason Kimball chipped in nine.

Hamburg 59, Farmington 57 (OT)

Hamburg’s Jalen Wilson hit three free throws with 1.4 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, then the Lions started overtime with back-to-back buckets to take the lead for good during the third-place game in the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Classic in Mountain Home.

Nick Bridges and Wilson each scored in the extra session for a 56-52 lead, and Farmington’s Tyler Vollmer scored with 22.5 seconds remaining. Caleb Bridges missed both freethrow attempts, but the Lions came up with the offensive rebound. D.J. Johnson made the first of two free throws, but the Lions once again grabbed the offensive board on the miss.

Wilson made 1 of 2 with 15.5 seconds left for a 58-54 lead, but Vollmer knocked down a 3 at the other end to draw within one with 9.8 seconds left. Hamburg’s Trey Brown went to the line and made 1 of 2 for a 59-57 edge, and Farmington’s final shot from 30 feet was off the mark.

Austin Shelley led the way with 19 points for Farmington, which was playing without leading scorer Will Pridmore. Wilson paced Hamburg with 25 points.

Bergman 71, Berryville 66

Elijah Royce and Chance Carter each had a double-double, and Bergman needed a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the host team Friday during the semifinals of the Berryville Holiday Hoops Classic.

Bergman (17-2) outscored Berryville 13-6 in the fourth quarter to take the come-frombehind win.

Royce finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds and 8 blocked shots while Carter had 20 points and 13 rebounds. Shelton Welsh added 13 for Bergman, which defeated Central Arkansas Christian 61-40 in a game played Thursday behind 16 points and 10 rebounds for Royce and 10 points and 10 rebounds for Carter. Huntsville 53, Berryville 46

The Eagles claimed third place in the Berryville Tournament as Beau Welchel had a double-double.

Welchel scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for Huntsville (11-5).

Zach Webb had 15 for Berryville and Rayden Peden scored 12.

GIRLS

Fort Smith Northside 70, Willard, Mo. 44

Sophomore Jersey Wolfenbarg­er had 11 points in the first quarter as Northside claimed the White Division championsh­ip during the Pink and White Tournament at Drury University in Springfiel­d, Mo.

Northside (11-0) was in control from the outset as it led 19-8 after one quarter. The Lady Bears led 33-21 at halftime and 55-36 after three quarters.

Wolfenbarg­er finished with 18 points for Northside, which opens 6A-Central play Friday against Bryant.

Farmington 69, Wonderview 51

Farmington pulled away throughout the second half Saturday to post a victory over Wonderview and win the consolatio­n bracket of the First Arkansas Bail Bonds Tournament at Mountain Home.

The Lady Cardinals (12-2) had a 33-29 halftime lead and started the second half with a 3-pointer by Trinity Johnson. Farmington went on to lead 45-38 after three quarters, then extended its lead to double digits when Audrey Culpepper’s bucket made it 49-39 with 6:10 remaining.

Makenna Vanzant had 19 points to lead the Lady Cardinals, while Tori Kersey added 16 and Culpepper tallied 12. Faith Byers led Wonderview with 11 points.

Bishop McGuinness 53,

Rogers Heritage 47

The Lady War Eagles finished fourth in the Enid Holiday Classic, falling on Saturday.

Pam Seiler led Heritage (4-8) with nine points and Danielle Dickerson eight. Maddie Lynge and Quiara Jones were both named to the all-tournament team.

Springdale Har-Ber 59, Lamar, Mo. 28

Har-Ber built a 42-9 halftime lead and cruised to a victory over Lamar in the girls fifth-place game of the Neosho Holiday Classic.

The Tigers (7-4) had three field goals in the first half and scored one point throughout the second quarter. Har-Ber took advantage shooting 17 of 30 from the floor for a 23-point lead.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore guard Kania Starks 18 points on 8 of 13 from the floor with six assists and five rebounds. Caylan Koons added nine and Flo Karu eight for Har-Ber (7-6).

Lamar was led by junior center Hallee Miller’s 10 points.

Shiloh Christian 40,

St. Joseph (Mo.) Lafayette 36

Shiloh Christian held off a late rally from St. Joseph Lafayette to earn a victory in the girls seventh-place game of the Neosho (Mo.) Holiday Classic.

Lafayette was held to single field goals in the second and third quarters as Shiloh Christian built a 13-point lead.

Sophomore guard Ryli Ross led the Saints (5-11) with 15 points with four 3-pointers. Senior guard Shea Sandefur scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The Irish (1-9) were led by junior guard Jori Winn’s 17 points with five 3-pointers. Lauren Adams, a 6-foot-1 sophomore center, grabbed 21 rebounds.

Sapulpa, Okla. 51, Van Buren 37

The host team raced past Van Buren in the Sapulpa Tournament on Saturday.

Tamarian Poindexter scored a game-high 27 points for Sapulpa and Diera Thomas added 11.

Lexi Miller led Van Buren (7-6) with 16 points and Emmalee Greebe scored 11. Miller and Kayleigh Evans were named to the All-Tournament team for Van Buren.

Vista Ridge 64, Fayettevil­le 54

The Lady Bulldogs posted a 1-2 record in the Sandra Meadows Classic in Duncanvill­e over the weekend.

Fayettevil­le opened with a big win against Houston Wheatley but lost back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday.

Lone Star handed the Lady Bulldogs their first loss of the season on Thursday 65-59. Sasha Goforth and Hatianna Releford had 20 points each for Fayettevil­le.

On Friday, Vista Ridge rolled to a 10-point win by dominating the fourth quarter. Goforth had 16 points in the loss. Coriah Beck scored 13 and Releford 12.

Russellvil­le 57, Charleston 50

Charleston could not hold on to its 10-point halftime lead as the Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the season in the Hoops for Hunger Tournament final Saturday in Russellvil­le.

Charleston (15-1) led 27-17 at halftime and a 42-39 lead with under 6 minutes remaining before Russellvil­le outscored the Lady Tigers 18-8 to take the win.

Alli Green had 17 points and Alexis Grandison 14 for Charleston, which returns to action Jan. 8 with a 3A-1 West Conference game against Waldron.

Berryville 66, Mountain View 53

The Lady Bobcats captured the championsh­ip of the Berryville Tournament as four players scored in double-figures.

Hannah Morrell led a balanced Berryville attack with 14 points. McKayla Hussey scored 13, Kelcee Hopper had 12, and Baylea Smith finished with 10 for the Lady Bobcats.

Kadyn Johnson scored 14 for Mountain View. Aubrey Isabell added 13, and Kaley Shipman finished with 10.

PREP WRESTLING Rogers Heritage’s White places fourth at Kinloch Classic

Rogers Heritage’s J.C. White went 5-2 to finish fourth in the 120-pound weight class at the prestigiou­s Kinloch Classic tournament in Springfiel­d, Mo., over the weekend.

White’s teammates Chris Pointer (220) and Charlie March (195) placed fifth and sixth respective­ly. Fayettevil­le’s Ian Branch also finished sixth at 106.
