Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Diaper Dandies, Stitched With Love, WCHS, ANA
Northwest Arkansas is blessed with a large number of nonprofit agencies that, together, meet just about every need. These organizations are supported by the generosity of the community.
In keeping with a holiday tradition, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has been sharing “wish lists” from local charitable agencies.
Here is this year’s final installment.
Diaper Dandies
What we do: We are beginning our fifth year, and we have, to date, helped 1,407 babies by providing a two-week supply of diapers, a large bag of wipes and a tube of diaper rash ointment to each. We are a group of 11 volunteers who work as a team to improve the health and comfort of “our” babies.
Address: St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1400 Grand Ave., Fort Smith 72904.
Contact: Mary L. Huss, (479) 452-5173 or (479) 6502377
Wish list: We are given storage space in our church, as well as free use of the fellowship hall for our four yearly distributions. The church does not include us in the budget, so we are entirely donation-driven. Because we spend between $27-$30 per baby, we must earn/collect the funds we use for our distributions. We always have a goal of helping 100 babies each time, so we must find about $3,000 for each distribution. We are grateful for all donations, small or large, and those considering a donation should know that, with the exception of a few office supplies, all funds received go directly to the purchase of the diapers, wipes and ointments.
Stitched With Love
What we do: We make quilts, small pillows and knitted caps for the seriously ill children at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization.

Wish list: This year focusing on the needs of the grounds and gardens of the Headquarters House. Paper, compostable leaf bags from Walmart, Lowe’s or Home Depot; a little four-wheeled wagon (to haul buckets of water, tools and heavy sacks of fertilizer (not a wheelbarrow); garden rakes, a heavy one with short tines, a sharp shooter shovel and a regular shovel or two would also be nice and handy. Also needed are fabric hoses, not plastic hoses, but fabric hoses that will couple together to make a longer hose for those hard-to-reach areas that need water.
Of course gift cards, and cash donations. The drive to replace needed boards, facing and windows on Headquarters House continues as well as to paint the structure in the coming year.
