BASEBALL Britton stays with Yanks

Zach Britton is staying put in the Bronx. The New York Yankees reached a three-year deal with Britton, pending a physical, an industry source confirmed on Saturday night. ESPN reports the contract is worth $39 million total guaranteed and includes a club option for a fourth season. The move was destined after former Yankees reliever David Robertson packed his bags and moved down the turnpike to sign with the Phillies on Friday. A source told the Daily News that the Yankees were honing in on Britton and Adam Ottavino, infamously known in the New York area for saying he’d be able to fan The Great Bambino, after Robertson set the bullpen market in motion. Britton was brought over from Baltimore at last year’s deadline to help fortify the bullpen. He served as a setup man along with Dellin Betances Aroldis for Chapman. In 25 appearances, Britton boasted a 2.88 ERA and picked up three saves. The southpaw led the league in saves in 2016 with 47.

TENNIS Bautista Agut prevails

Roberto Bautista Agut didn’t waste his win over Novak Djokovic as he won the Qatar Open by beating Tomas Berdych 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the final on Saturday. A day after upsetting the world No. 1, Bautista Agut held off Berdych to win his ninth ATP title. Bautista Agut missed three chances to lead 5-1 in the third set, then Berdych blew two chances to get the deciding set back on serve at 4-2 down. Those were the Swede’s last chances. Victory capped a career week for Bautista Agut, who beat three players who have reached the top five — Stan Wawrinka, Djokovic and Berdych. Berdych had a successful week, too, in his first tournament since June after time off because of a back injury.

Teen Andreescu wins

Unseeded Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu beat third-seeded Su-wei Hsieh 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday to advance to the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, against defending champion Julia Goerges. After qualifying and then leaving a trail of seeded opponents in her wake, Andreescu, 18, ranked 152, outplayed the 28th-ranked Hsieh to reach her first WTA Tour final. Seven days ago, Andreescu entered the qualifying rounds of the Classic, unheralded and hoping to get in a few matches before chancing her arm in qualifying at the Australian Open. Today she will play Goerges for a WTA Tour title after beating No. 3 Caroline Wozniacki, seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams and Hsieh on her way to the final. Andreescu’s win over Hsieh in a semifinal Saturday was her most dominant performance of the week.

Pair withdraws

Defending champion Roberto Bautista Agut has joined fellow Doha finalist Tomas Berdych in withdrawing from the Auckland ATP Tour event which starts Monday. Bautista Agut was to be the fifth seed at the Auckland tournament, the ASB Classic, but pulled out after reaching the Doha final in which he beat Berdych 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. His appearance in the final meant there was insufficient time to travel to Auckland for his first-round match. American Steve Johnson will take Bautista Agut’s place in the main draw while New Zealander Rubin Statham replaces Berdych.

Halep returns this week

No. 1-ranked Simona Halep returns to competitive tennis this week at the Sydney International unsure if her back injury has fully healed. It will be the first time Halep has played since the French Open champion ended her season in October due to a herniated disc in her back. With a bye in the first round in Sydney, Halep will meet either Jelena Ostapenko Ashleigh or Barty in the second round before a possible quarterfinal against Karolina Pliskova.
