HOLLYWOOD Q&A

- BY ADAM THOMLISON TV Media

Q: Will Connie Britton be returning to “9-1-1”? It’s a great show but she played a big role and she is missed. A: Tim Minear, co-creator and executive producer of Fox’s “9-1-1,” made it abundantly clear that he’d welcome Connie Britton back to the show. “The front door, back door, and side door are always open for her to return.” Unfortunately, that doesn’t translate into anything like a plan. Indeed, the reason Britton left the show is because she’s sticking to her original plan, which was to do one season and then leave. Being in a new show is always a tentative thing — since so many shows never get a second season, theoretically all new shows are one-year commitments to start with. But in Britton’s case, she stuck to her one-year commitment despite the show being renewed. Minear’s enthusiastic offer to let her return suggests he wasn’t totally happy with her decision. Another indication is the fact that her character was simply replaced by another doing a very similar job — 911 dispatcher — so it’s not as if her character’s exit was important to the plot. Fortunately, the replacement character is being played by an experienced actress in her own right, Jennifer Love Hewitt (“Ghost Whisperer”). “9-1-1” fans may not want to hear this, but it seems Britton made the right call by leaving. Since then, she’s starred in not

one but two high-profile shows — FX’s “American Horror Story” and Bravo’s “Dirty John” — and landed a key role in the starstudded big-screen biopic of former Fox News boss Roger Ailes. Q: Can you tell me if season 8 of “Foyle’s War” was the last we’ll ever see? It was a superb series and the last episode of season 8 ended with a massive shocker. I’m hoping there will be more. A: It’s hard to say never when the principals involved — Michael Kitchen, who played Christopher Foyle, and Anthony Horowitz, who created the series — are still working, and when the series ran intermittently and for so long, but it’s likely we’ll never see another “Foyle’s War.” The show’s last season, its eighth, aired back in 2015. Years often passed between seasons, however, so that’s not a clear indicator. The key piece of evidence in the death of this murder mystery comes from the mouth of Horowitz himself. “Seventeen years of my life have been devoted to ‘Foyle’s War,’” he said in an interview with DigitalSpy.com a year after the series finale. “It had to come to an end sometime. We went from 1940 all the way through to 1947, and I told countless true stories about the war. I felt that there were no more true stories to tell about that period. I’d sort of covered pretty much every area.” Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. Please include your name and town.
