JBU men upset undefeated Langston

Senior Jake Caudle scored a season-best 25 points and the No. 21 John Brown University men’s basketball team held on to upset No. 4 Langston (Okla.), 71-68, handing the Lions their first loss of the season, on Saturday afternoon inside the C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse in Langston, Okla.

Caudle dropped six 3-pointers and hit 8-of-11 from the stripe to power his 25-point, seven-rebound performance.

The Lions (12-1, 4-1 Sooner Athletic) suffered their first loss of the season, as the JBU defense held the hosts to a season-worst 30.6 percent (19-of-62) from the floor.

“I thought we did an unbelievable job locking in on the defensive end, forcing a high-scoring Langston team to take a lot of tough shots, one’s they’re capable of hitting,” head coach Jason Beschta said. “Jake was impressive – he played with a lot of aggression and confidence – including working his way to the foul line.

“Today was a big win and it continues to validate what the team already believes about itself. We just need to stay humble and hungry and focus on improving over the course of the season. Every other team in the conference will be, and any win is hard to come by.”

Josh Bowling added 13 points, while junior Brenton Toussaint contributed a perfect 5 of 5 shooting mark to score 11. Rokas Grabliauskas netted 10 points and passed out four assists.

Jorori Coleman and Alfonzo Anderson each scored 14 to lead Langston while Jerami Grace had 10 points. Knowledge Darby corralled a game-high 10 rebounds.

JBU women win in overtime

Langston (Okla.) used a last-possession 3-pointer to tie the game at 68, but sophomore Taylor Fergen scored six in the overtime as the John Brown University women’s basketball team dispatched the Lions by a 78-73 final on Saturday afternoon inside C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse in Langston, Okla.

Senior Baily Cameron inched closer to the program’s all-time scoring record with 23 points on 8 of 15 shooting and added four rebounds and a pair of blocks in the win. Fergen netted a season-high 16 points and notched her first-career double-double by pulling down a game, and career, best 11 boards. Senior Karina Chandra also added 16 points in the victory for JBU (9-5, 5-2 SAC).

Tennia Hill scored a game-high 25 points off the bench for Langston on 8 of 15 shooting from the field, including seven triples. Jhordyn Patton posted 17 points.
