SUN BELT MEN TROY 90, ARKANSAS STATE 85, OT

Troy scored the final six points in taking an overtime victory over the Red Wolves at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

The Trojans (9-7, 2-2) took the lead for good with 1:42 remaining when B.J. Miller put in a layup for an 86-85 advantage. Miller, who also connected on a layup with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, finished with 21 points.

The loss spoiled a 31-point effort from Red Wolves senior guard Ty Cockfield, who was 12-of-25 shooting to go along with six rebounds.

Arkansas State University (8-9, 2-2) held a 78-73 lead with 1:21 left in regulation after Cockfield’s layup, but Troy drew to within 78-76 on Javan Johnson’s three-pointer and tied the game on Miller’s layup.

The Red Wolves were 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in overtime, but only 1 of 7 from the floor. Overall, Arkansas State was 28 of 66 from the floor while Troy was 27 of 55.

Jordon Varnado led the Trojans with 27 points.

Marquis Eaton put in 16 points and made 5 steals for Arkansas State, while Tristin Walley added 14 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Grantham Gillard scored 11 points.

SOUTHLAND MEN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 75, LAMAR 68

Thatch Unruh led a balanced scoring effort with 14 points, and the Bears shot 53 percent from the floor on their way to a victory over the Cardinals at the Farris Center.

Six Bears scored eight or more points in improving to 1-2 in conference play.

The University of Central Arkansas (6-10) connected on 26 of 49 shots, including a 12-of-23 performance on three-pointers. The Bears outscored the Cardinals 19-11 in the game’s final 6:19.

Matthew Mondesir added 13 points, Hayden Koval and DeAndre Jones scored 10 points each, and Khaleem Bennett and Tanner Schmit both scored 8.

UCA led 37-34 at the half but fell behind 57-56 with 6:42 remaining after a Nick Garth free throw.

The Bears regained the lead for good on two free throws by Jones at the 6:19 mark. Back-to-back dunks by Bennett and Koval increased the Bears’ lead to 62-57, and Lamar never drew any closer.

Garth led the Cardinals ( 8- 8, 1- 2) with 18 points while Christian Barrett added 16.

SUN BELT WOMEN ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK 65, SOUTH ALABAMA 42

Kyra Collier scored 20 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, handed out 6 assists and made 4 steals as the Trojans routed the Jaguars at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Ala.

The Trojans (7-8, 3-1) trailed 10-8 with 4:01 left in the opening quarter, then scored the next 17 points. South Alabama went the next 7:36 without a point and 9:17 without a field goal.

Collier was 8 of 18 from the floor and 4 of 4 on free throws. The Trojans were 24 of 66 overall from the floor and 15 of 18 from the line.

Ronjanae DeGray put in 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Trojans, while Raeyana DeGray added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

The Trojans outrebounded South Alabama 43-34 and held a 24-3 advantage on second-chance points.

Savannah Jones led the Jaguars (123, 1-3) with 12 points.

TROY 87, ARKANSAS STATE 79

Troy overcame an eight-point halftime deficit and snapped Arkansas State’s three-game winning streak at Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.

Amber Rivers hit 9 of 14 field-goal attempts and finished with a game-high 22 points as Troy outscored the Red Wolves 57-41 in the second half.

Troy (13-2, 4-0) extended its winning streak to seven.

After hitting only 12 of 39 shots from the floor in the first half, Troy was 25 of 43 in the second half to finish 37 of 82 (45 percent). ASU (8-7, 3-1) was 29 of 76 (38 percent) from the floor.

Akasha Westbrook scored 19 points to lead Arkansas State, while Payton Tennison scored 16 and Morgan Wallace 11.

Troy took the lead for good on Rivers’ three-pointer with 5:23 left in the third quarter. Troy led 60-58 heading into the final quarter and by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN LAMAR 57, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 37

Moe Kinard scored 14 of her gamehigh 18 points in the first half, and the Lady Cardinals held Central Arkansas to four points in the second quarter in claiming a victory over the Sugar Bears at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas.

The loss was the fifth in a row for the Sugar Bears (5-9, 0-4), and their sixth consecutive road loss. Lamar (11-4, 4-0) won its sixth consecutive game.

Senior guard Kamry Orr led UCA with 20 points while grabbing 7 rebounds, but no other Sugar Bear managed more than 7 points.

UCA led 16-10 after the first quarter, and the game was tied 20-20 at the half, but the Lady Cardinals outscored the Sugar Bears 37-17 in the second half while holding UCA to 6-of-20 shooting.

The Sugar Bears were 13- of- 41 shooting overall and were guilty of 29 turnovers. Lamar was 20 of 57 from the floor.

Lamar’s Chastadie Barrs scored 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists.

SWAC WOMEN ALABAMA STATE 58, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 56

Alabama State scored the game’s final six points to hand the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff an overtime loss at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Shmya Ward led the Hornets (3-11, 2-1) with 15 points as Alabama State won back-to-back games for the first time since February 2018. Ward was 7 of 12 from the floor, and she also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Noe’ll Taylor scored 11 points for the Lady Lions (3-6, 0-2). Kyeonia Harris added 10 points for UAPB. Sha’Kendra Tilley led the Lady Lions in rebounding with nine.

Alabama State was 21 of 56 (37.5 percent) from the floor while UAPB was 17 of 58 (29.3 percent).

UAPB forced the overtime by outscoring the Hornets 18-13 in the fourth quarter.
