Miami tops Notre Dame

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Emese Hof and Beatrice Mompremier had double-doubles for the No. 25 Miami Hurricanes (20-5, 8-2 ACC), who applied smothering defense to beat No. 4 Notre Dame 72-65 on Thursday night.

The Fighting Irish were held to a season-low point total and shot 37 percent, also a season low. Miami won despite shooting just 39 percent, including 3 for 16 from threepoint range.

Hof had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Mompremier added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

In other Top 25 women’s games Thursday, Asia Durr scored 15 points to help No. 2 Louisville beat No. 15 Syracuse 76-51. … Nausia Woolfolk scored 22 points, including a career-high-tying 5 three-pointers, and No. 24 Florida State scored 10 consecutiv­e points late in the fourth quarter to knock off No. 9 North Carolina State 75-70.

TOP 25 MEN NO. 12 HOUSTON 77, CENTRAL FLORIDA 68

ORLANDO, Fla. — Corey Davis Jr. scored 26 points on 8-for-13 shooting and No. 12 Houston had another strong defensive effort to beat Central Florida 77-68.

Armoni Brooks added 14 points for the Cougars (22-1, 9-1 American Athletic) and Galen Robinson Jr. had 12 points and 7 assists.

B.J. Taylor scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half for Central Florida (16-5, 6-3), and Aubrey Dawkins and Tacko Fall each added 13. Taylor hit a stepback three-pointer to pull the Knights within eight with 1:19 left.
