It’s not crumbs to me

-

I just finished calculating my federal income taxes for 2018. Yes, this 77-year-old Arkansawyer still does his own taxes the old-fashioned way without any computer program or professional assistance.

In 2018, my household income went up 5 percent from the previous year while my taxes went down 12 percent.

While the total dollars involved might be crumbs to Nancy (we’ve got to pass it before we know what’s in it) Pelosi, it is significant to me and my family, and greatly appreciated.

During my lifetime, we have witnessed the shift of a once solidly Democratic Arkansas to that which is now predominantly Republican. When I was a youngster my father, a staunch Democrat, would tell me that the Democrats were for the “little man” while the Republicans were for the “rich man.”

It is evident that this is no longer the case as I have benefited from this Republican initiative and I am certainly not rich.

I believe the tax-and-spend philosophy of the Democrats along with their unrelenting creep toward socialism are major reasons for this shift in state politics. It speaks volumes when a former first lady of Arkansas running for president can’t even carry the state in which she lived some 20 years.

Thank you, Mr. President. MARION MONK Hot Springs Village
