SILOAM SPRINGS, March 2 — A stranger in the city, who gave Leavenworth, Kan., as his home address, was here consulting real estate firms in regard to buying a farm this week. He took a fancy to the fine 570-acre bottom land of Henderson Carl and agreed to buy it for $28,500. He paid by check $3,000 on the purchase price and was to pay more upon his return home. He told Carl that he was short of funds and asked him to cash a $200 check for him. Mr. Carl gave him the money and J. H. Perry of this city drove him to Joplin, where he disappeared. Mr. Carl was next day informed that both checks were worthless and therefore he is out $200.

■ The wrecked hulk of a car involved in a fatal traffic accident Saturday night helped police link a 23-yearold Little Rock man to the shooting death last week of a convenience store owner. Mark Patrick Poindexter pleaded innocent Wednesday to allegations he drove the 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 used in the Feb. 22 shooting death of Jess Brown at Rocky’s One Stop, 8224 Asher Ave. Later Wednesday, Poindexter pleaded innocent to manslaughter, drunken driving and other charges for allegedly skidding across four lanes of traffic at high speed and slamming into another car, killing the driver and injuring two teenagers. … Detectives got their break in the Rocky’s One Stop killing after an observant police officer at the scene of the fatal accident Saturday noticed the car matched the description of one used in the homicide. Poindexter confessed his role in the convenience store killing Tuesday after police arrested him at his home in connection with the fatal automobile accident, Little Rock detectives wrote in an affidavit.
