Generous people here

My husband and I were on a road trip July 29 on I-40 headed west when the front left tire suddenly went flat. We were in the left lane, which made getting to the right side of the freeway difficult to maneuver. Once we began the task of calling for help, things got complicated. Our roadside assistance company said it would take them 45 minutes to an hour to arrive. They added that we should call the state police since the police could get there sooner. My husband attempted to use our car jack to jack up the car, which was extremely dangerous with 18-wheelers flying by at breakneck speeds. That’s when we decided to go ahead and call 911. About 30 minutes later a state trooper pulled up, and no sooner had he gotten his car jack out than another state trooper arrived and assisted him. Those Arkansas state troopers were amazing, and we deeply appreciate their service to us in a scary situation. Their names as best I recall are Matt Williams and Dennis Smothers. Roadside assistance did call back, making sure we were no longer in danger.

Aug. 10 we were in Springdale visiting relatives. As we were leaving town driving west on Sunset Avenue, we decided to stop at a drive-through to pick up lunch. When we got to the window, the employee told us the lady in front of us paid for our food. We were so shocked at her generosity, tears filled our eyes. She was driving a white SUV, and her tag had a Realtor emblem on it. We are not sure what kind of car she was driving. Thank you, kind lady, for making our day.

With all the mass killings that went on recently, we want you to know that there are kind, generous folks in this crazy world. All three of these folks are fine examples of outstanding citizens. KATHY NEAL Little Rock
