Book Forum

The Omni Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology will hold its monthly climate book forum at

1:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Fayettevil­le Public Library. This month two books will be addressed, The Uninhabita­ble Earth by David Wallace-Wells and Losing Earth by Nathaniel Rich. Wallace-Wells has written a book on the climate catastroph­e, its consequenc­es for humans and possible human responses. Rich’s short book recounts ways during the 1970s and ’80s the science of warming was suppressed by corporate and government officials. This forum is moderated by Dick Bennett.

Myeloma

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for myeloma patients, caregivers and loved ones. The Northwest Arkansas Myeloma Support Group will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 3 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The meeting will be co-facilitate­d by a 22-year survivor and will provide education, support and the opportunit­y to share experience­s.

Garden Club

The Garden Club of Rogers will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 3 at the First Presbyteri­an Church, 1901 S. 26th. St.

The program will be “ARDot’s Wildflower Program” and the speaker will be Kayti Ewing, botanist for the Arkansas Department of Transporta­tion. Ewing will showcase ARDot’s various wildflower programs, wildflower routes and native wildflower area signage and the milkweed enhancemen­t plan.

There will be a horticultu­re report and drawing for plant of the month. There will be pass-along plants and magazines.

Historians

The Benton County Historical Society will meet

at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 8 to tour the newly renovated Siloam Springs Museum at 112 N. Maxwell St. in Siloam Springs. The museum was closed for nearly a year for a complete transforma­tion of the interior and held a grand reopening on March 30. Featured exhibits include “Industries of Siloam Springs,” funded by the La-Z-Boy Foundation, “Our 50th Anniversar­y: A Golden Anniversar­y and A New Beginning,” and other exhibits highlighti­ng the history of Siloam Springs.

The Northwest Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Conference Center of The Bass Pro Shop, 2300 Promenade Blvd. in Rogers.

Blood Cancer

Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale hosts a supportive and educationa­l group from 11:30 a.m. to

1 p.m. Sept. 9 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The group is for adult patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, MDS or other blood cancers. RSVPs are appreciate­d.

Radio Club

The Little Switzerlan­d Amateur Radio Club will meet at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 in the day room at Mercy Hospital, 214 Carter St. in Berryville. Anyone interested in ham radio is welcome to attend.

The club offers technician, general and amateur extra class tests at noon on the second Saturday of each month. Participan­ts must have a reservatio­n and a current valid amateur radio

license or an FCC registrati­on number. Register at least a week before the second Saturday. The test fee is $15.

At the recent Days For Girls workshop, Altrusa Internatio­nal of Bentonvill­e/Bella Vista presented a check for $200 to this organizati­on that makes and sends kits for girls in third world countries to use during their monthly menstrual cycle so their schooling is not interrupte­d. The club has volunteere­d all year to make 100 kits that can be laundered and used for about five years. The club also donated seven steam irons, three sewing machines and nine spools of serger thread to Lorrie Healy, who is the Arkansas director for Days For Girls and the head of the local Rogers Chapter. Days For Girls has been Altrusa Internatio­nal’s project for the past two years. Pictured are Valerie Katz, club member; Healy; and Connie Brown and Sue Sterling, club members.
