Committed to cause

-

ACTIVISTS have been known to do crazy things to bring attention to their causes. Some are foolish. But some are truly courageous and worthy of note in the history books. For a Swedish activist who recently arrived in New York’s harbor, it’s the latter.

Greta Thunberg sailed into the harbor after 15 days at sea in a zero-carbon yacht. Where did she launch from? Greenland? Iceland? Nope. The 16-year-old launched from Britain. Here’s more from The Independent:

“The Swedish teenager’s voyage to the United States from Britain on a zero-carbon yacht has focused the world’s attention on the urgent issue of climate change, as she is set to attend the United Nations summit on zero emissions next month. From a modest protest in front of the Swedish parliament, she will now be invited to speak among international dignitaries.”

This young lady showed serious heart to sail across the Atlantic Ocean for her

cause. And the cause is a just one: working for a cleaner world. Hats off to this courageous demonstrator.

Some people smash windows and clash with police to bring attention to their “cause.” She did none of that. Instead, she risked her life and put herself at the mercy of the seas to practice what she preached.

Anyone with the right amount of money can purchase a ticket to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. But sailing across in a zero-emission yacht? That takes a little more work.

“My message to all the activists is to just keep going, and I know it really may seem impossible and hopeless sometimes—it always does—so you just have to keep going because if you try hard enough and long enough you will make a difference,” Ms. Thunberg told a crowd in New York.

Inspiring stuff, really. You just keep working to change the world, Ms. Thunberg. We’re behind you all the way.
