BELLA VISTA — Clifford Westling, age 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Aug. 29, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. He was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Moorland, Iowa, to Clarence and Edna (Messerly) Westling.

He attended Moorland and Fort Dodge public schools. Clifford married his sweetheart, Darlene Anderson on Jan. 22, 1954. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. Clifford was a member of the National Guard, 109th Medical Battalion. He farmed in Iowa and Minnesota. He worked for Nash Finch Co. as an operations supervisor.

He served as a Sunday School teacher and Superinten­dent, School Board Member, Farm Bureau Member of Webster County, Iowa and Vice President of Kandiyohi County Farm Bureau of Minnesota. He enjoyed woodworkin­g, showing his wares in a variety of craft fairs. Clifford volunteere­d with Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP) working constructi­on projects at churches, Bible Camps, school and conference centers.

Preceded in death by his parents; son, John; and brothers, Clarence, Jr. and Melvin.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Darlene; children, Pam (Steve) Johnson, Tracy, Minn., Twila (Rick) Lehr, Lincoln, Neb., Lori (George) Batzel, Chatfield, Minn.; daughter-inlaw Donna Westling, Bentonvill­e, Ark.; sister, Janice Lamm, Altoona, Iowa; and numerous grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

BENTONVILL­E — Ricky Schwelling­er, 46, of Bentonvill­e was taken too soon on Aug. 21, 2019. He was born on Sept. 18, 1972, to Richard and Betty Schwelling­er in Garden Grove, Calif. Ricky enjoyed playing pool, ping pong, exercising and making people smile. He especially loved his two daughters, Savanah and Kirsten.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Weirick.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Schwelling­er; his two daughters, Savanah and Kirsten Schellinge­r; his father, Richard Schwelling­er; three brothers, J.J. Weirick of Utah, Timothy Schwelling­er of Oklahoma and Travis Schwelling­er of Missouri; and three sisters, Tiffany Schwelling­er of Texas, Tanya Schwelling­er of Arkansas and Bonnie Schwelling­er of California.

Memorial service was held at First Baptist Church Rogers in Pleasant Grove on Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m.

CENTERTON — Destiney Denney, 26, of Centerton, died Aug. 28 at Mercy Hospital in Springfiel­d, Mo. Survivors are her parents of Centerton; a sister, Skylar Roark of Centerton; and two sisters. FAYETTEVIL­LE — Joyce Lynn Keith George passed on into the loving arms of our Lord on Aug. 30, 2019, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. Joyce was 59. Joyce was born Jan. 2, 1960, in Coffeyvill­e, Kan., to Mary Elizabeth Capps Keith and James Lloyd (Jim) Keith, Jr.

Joyce grew up in a loving and fun-filled home at 3303 W. 8th with her older sisters, Julie and Linda. Joyce was in the Class of ’78 at Field Kindley High School, where she was a member of Drum and Bugle Corps and the Tornado Times staff. Joyce enjoyed her many friends. Joyce’s love for the Lord was nurtured at First United Methodist Church during childhood and her teenage years.

On June 4, 1978, Joyce married Tom George in the chapel of First United Methodist Church. They bought a home in the country near Dearing, Kan., where their family grew, as they were blessed with three sons, Thomas Lloyd, Lucas Alan and Andrew James. Joyce was a natural homemaker, enjoying her garden, animals, cooking and tending a warm and loving home … and, of course, caring for her three ornery, but adorable, little boys.

In these years, Joyce’s faith grew, while her family was involved a lot in Tyro Christian Church. Eventually, Joyce moved to Fayettevil­le, Ark., in the Ozark Mountains. She greatly enjoyed nature’s beauty, music and made many more friends. It was here that she found Genesis Church, which is a part of Central United Methodist Church, and she felt God’s peace and love, abundantly. Joyce’s pets were very special companions to her and lucky to have her special touch with animals.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Tommy and Natalie George of North Little Rock, Ark., Luke and Leigh George of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Andy and Jerrica George of Montgomery, Texas. Her blessings of grandchild­ren are five grandsons, Kaleb, Aiden, Kameron, Asher James and Finn, and her one and only granddaugh­ter, Mary Emma. Surviving sisters are Julie Carr and husband Dennis of Houston, Texas, and Linda Malloy and husband Rick of Fayettevil­le, Ark.

Joyce’s memorial service will be celebrated at First United Methodist Church in Coffeyvill­e, Kan., on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. Family burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Edward Lee (Eddie) McNeal, 67, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. He was born Nov. 20, 1951, in Fayettevil­le to Charles and Ruth (Smith) McNeal. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Eddie participat­ed in music from junior high through college. During his time at Fayettevil­le High School, Eddie was a member of the a cappella choir as well as in the band earning accolades in all region choir as well as all region and all state band. After his graduation from FHS, Eddie attended the University of Arkansas where he was the first four-year tubist for the U of A Marching Band.

Eddie’s love affair with cars began at a young age. Eddie began selling cars at McNeal Motor Company prior to 1964. At 16 he began working at Goff-McNair Motor company in Fayettevil­le and went on to manage the company. After Goff-McNair closed its doors, Eddie sold Lincoln and Mercury vehicles for Tim Hurd LM, Putnam Motors in Fort Smith, Ark., Bob Maloney Lincoln Mercury in Rogers, Ark. Most recently he was the owner/manager of Auto Plaza where he continued to sell Lincoln and Mercury vehicles to many of his longtime customers and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Marcia Woody and her partner Michael Taylor of Fayettevil­le; brothers, David McNeal and his wife Jennifer of Richland, Wash., and Marty McNeal and his wife Kelly of West Fork; his nieces, Shannon Bode, Nicole Taylor and Sarah McNeal Sutton; nephews, Robert McNeal, William McNeal, Zach Taylor, Chas McNeal and Jackson McNeal; as well as several cousins and many friends who were all very special to him.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Dr. Donald Walter Stanton, 81, a longtime veterinari­an of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at his home. He was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Herbert Lee and Susie Nell Stanton.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 59 years, Suzanne Schoolcraf­t Stanton; a daughter, Pamela Evans and husband Kevin of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a son, Dr. Derik Stanton and wife Jill of Fayettevil­le; a sister, Virginia Hight of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchild­ren, Alexandra Evans, Jacob Evans and his wife Lauren, Drake Stanton, and Jessica Stanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ina Sue Dougherty and Patsy Rose Erdman; and a brother, Herbert Lee Stanton, Jr.

He attended and graduated from Wichita High School, Wichita State Community College, then on to Kansas State University for veterinary school and earned from Gamma Sigma Delta the recognitio­n of high scholarshi­p, outstandin­g achievemen­t and service in Agricultur­al Science in Spring 1964. He has been a member of the American Veterinary Medical Associatio­n for 55 years. He received the gold membership which identifies him as an Honor Roll member of AVMA for the last 10 years.

Don was the houseboy at the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at K-State; the biggest perk other than meals and learning manners, he met his best friend forever Susie. They married May 20, 1960. While attending vet school, Susie supported him as a home economics teacher and during Christmas break of 1961 their daughter Pam was born. The plan was always to move to Arkansas, but after graduation they chose to move to the largest animal hospital in the United States in St. Louis, Mo.

In 1971 he began his veterinary career in Fayettevil­le, specializi­ng in small animals. Stanton has been a member of the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Associatio­n for 48 years. He served several years on the AVMA board of directors, served as President in 1984 and was named Arkansas Veterinari­an of the Year in 1991. He was a member of the Orthopedic Surgical Society and American Animal Hospital Associatio­n. In 1996, his son graduated from LSU Veterinary School, joined him in practice and will now continue his legacy.

He was a lifetime Methodist. In 1972, His family joined Central United Methodist Church and he has served as a church usher for many years.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Fayettevil­le-Sequoyah. He was a Kiwanian for 47 years and had received the Legion of Honor for his time with the club. He served as club President. For years he has loved volunteeri­ng at Bikes, Blues and BBQ , as the bell ringer for the Salvation Army and delivering fruit baskets at Hillcrest Towers, often with his grandchild­ren.

He started each day with goals set and ended with his accomplish­ments. Although he never officially retired, he has always had many interests and hobbies — fishing, woodworkin­g, bicycling, grill master, riding his tractor, watching the Razorbacks, piddling at Beaver Lake, and in later years, enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball and run track.

His love for his family will never be forgotten, but it is evident that the four-legged community knew him the very best.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayettevil­le. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2019, at Central United Methodist Church at 6 W. Dickson St., Fayettevil­le, Ark. 72701. FORT SMITH — John Leslie Evitts III, 60, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., on March 16, 1959, the son of Judge John Leslie Evitts, II and Gwendolynn­e Trout Webb.

Les attended Benton Public Schools and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas where he was a Sigma Nu. After working in the oil business for a few years, he returned to the University where he received his Juris Doctorate degree. Les was a partner at Hardin, Jesson & Terry, PLC. Les was a member of both the Sebastian County Bar Associatio­n and the Arkansas Bar Associatio­n. He was also a past board member at Hardscrabb­le Country Club and was the President of the Board for the Stonebridg­e Property Owners Associatio­n for 13 years.

Les was a devoted husband, a loving son, a wonderful father and grandfathe­r, a loyal friend and an avid golfer enjoying several trips to Scotland with his golf buddies. Les loved to travel and made several trips to Europe with Janie.

Les is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Janie Thomson Evitts; his daughter, Laura and her husband Nate Jensen and their sons Parker and Hayes Jensen of Portland, Ore. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Terri and her husband Greg Shanks of Kingwood, Texas, as well as their two sons Matt Shanks of Leander, Texas and Brad Shanks of Carrollton, Texas.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. Private burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.

LITTLE ROCK — Linda Allen Ross, 81, of Little Rock passed away on Aug. 31, 2019. She was born in Donaldson, Ark., on Sept. 7, 1937, to James Walter Day and Annie (Krueger) Day. She is survived by her son, Brooks Allen (Kathy) of Maumelle, Ark.; stepson, Richmond Ross (Sarah) of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchild­ren: Kate Bilheimer (Christian) of Rogers, Ark.; Patrick Erwin (Sarah) of Maumelle, Ark.; Mary Grace Rainey (Cody) of Maumelle; Davis Allen of Des Moines, Iowa, and Richmond and Heuer Ross of Nashville, Tenn. Linda also had three great-grandchild­ren: Arden, John Stephen, and Michal Beth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Porter Ross; her parents; her daughter, Mendy Allen; great-grandson, Charlie Erwin; and four half-sisters.

Linda was a graduate of Malvern High School class of 1955 and then attended Ouachita Baptist where she graduated in 1959. After graduation from Ouachita, she began doing work for the Baptist Student Union during which time she met her first husband, Dr. D.B. Allen. Linda and D.B. married in December 1962 and with the exception of brief stints at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and one year in Texarkana, they made their lives and home in Little Rock. They had two children, Brooks and Mendy.

Linda was a devoted wife and homemaker until she began her profession­al career in 1985. Her career consisted of a seven-year stint with Discover Card Financial Services that led her to move to both St. Louis and Chicago. She decided to come back to Little Rock in 1992 to be close to family and enjoyed a lengthy real estate career working for Coldwell Banker Rector Phillips Morse.

She met her second husband, William “Bill” Ross, after she moved back to Little Rock and they were married in 1994. Bill and Linda enjoyed nearly 25 years of marriage together. They both developed careers at CBRPM and were active members at Second Presbyteri­an Church where they loved the church home and the relationsh­ips that they found there.

Linda loved life. She had an enthusiasm and a zeal for life that was contagious. She cared deeply for others and had a special place in her heart for those who were facing trials of many kinds. She loved all the members of her family passionate­ly and, outside of them, her greatest treasure was her friendship­s. She was as active in as many organizati­ons as she could be because, at her core, she had a heart to serve.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyteri­an Church on 600 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock with reception to follow.

LOWELL — John Edward Martfeld of Lowell passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at 8:26 p.m. in his home. John was born on Nov. 9, 1941, to Bill and Merle Martfeld, and hopefully has now been taken up to the Lord.

Born in Bridgeport, Neb., at 3 years old John got out of there as fast as he could and moved to Northwest Arkansas with his parents, where he spent the remainder of his life. John was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for over 70 years. At the age of 17 he helped the church organize its first Catholic Youth Organizati­on, of which his children were later members. He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus at the church.

In 1964 John married his wife, Roseann. Later, in 1975, John and Roseann bought a little drive-in restaurant together and the built the Prairie Creek Hickory House into one of the most prosperous restaurant­s in Northwest Arkansas. Over their 26 years of ownership, they had the privilege of serving three U.S. Presidents and numerous notables from politics and entertainm­ent. After selling the Hickory House in 2001, John went into real estate sales and then retired in 2012. During the past six years, he had the pleasure of driving a school bus and enjoyed this time and his interactio­n with children. John loved fishing, canoeing, and gardening. He and Roseann also enjoyed traveling to various countries over the years.

John is survived by his wife, Roseann; his three children; and four grandchild­ren: Kimberly and Thor Larsen and daughters Kristin and Taylor; Shannon and Wally Samples; and John and Cathy Martfeld and their sons, Connor and Colton. He is also survived by six siblings and their families: Joyce and Don Barthman, Barbara and Monte Bell, Tom and Ronna Martfeld, Joe and Tess Martfeld, Jim and Judy Martfeld, and Chris and Sara Martfeld.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.

PARIS — Clifton Dean Stanton, 65, of Paris, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019. A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

PEA RIDGE — Debby Thomas Marler, 66, of Pea Ridge died Saturday, Aug. 31, at her residence. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Southside Church of Christ in Rogers with funeral service to follow at 3 p.m.

ROGERS — Kay Calvin Sanford was born in Pawhuska, Okla., on Nov. 26, 1939, to Forrest and Louise (Hall) Calvin. They moved to Rogers, Ark., when her dad became manager of the downtown Harris Hotel from 1943 to 1958.

Kay graduated from Rogers High School in 1957. She attended the University of Arkansas for one year before enrolling at the University of Tulsa, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961. She was also a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges her senior year. After moving to Dallas, Texas, with her family in 1970, Kay attended Texas Women University and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 1977.

Kay met her husband, Ray at the University of Tulsa; they married in December of 1960 in Ray’s hometown of Attleboro, Mass. In Dallas, Kay taught freshman and sophomore English, World Literature, World History, and Technical Writing at Brookhaven Community College for 22 years. She also taught business letter writing under the name Write Image, to companies in the Dallas area, American Airlines, IRS, Fidelity Union Life, Hunt Oil, along with banks, lawyers, engineers. Kay and Ray retired to her hometown Rogers in 1999.

Kay always wanted to be a writer. She finally wrote a mystery book, with a Brookhaven teaching friend, called “Double Shot.” She was also chosen to be one of 14 writers for the book “Out of Dallas” submitted by professors of Dallas-area colleges. She was an avid mystery book reader on a daily basis. Kay loved the history of Rogers, and became President of the Friends of the Rogers Historical Museum, along with helping to keep the monthly Rogers History Club going for several years.

To cherish her memory are her husband, Ray, children, Gretchen of Lake Worth, Texas, and Mark of Cleveland. Ohio. They were the love of her life.

Kay gave freely of her time, wisdom, and love. She was also a great source of knowledge and inspiratio­n. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation services will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at Benton County Funeral Home 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, Ark. A family graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at the Rogers Cemetery, Rogers, Ark.

ROGERS — Dennis L. Mason, 101, of Rogers passed away on Sept. 1, 2019. He was born on March 15, 1918, in Barada, Neb., to the late Charles “Dick” Dickens and Wanda Josephine Mason.

Dennis lived a long life and developed many talents along the way. He lived in Wichita during WWII and did his part for the war effort working on B-29 bombers at The Boeing Company. After moving to Northwest Arkansas, he opened a hatchery and feed store in Bentonvill­e. He was a peerless handyman and spent the later years of his life working as a builder and electricia­n, teaching the trade to other members of his family. Outside of work, he was a hunter and fisherman.

Dennis was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Bentonvill­e. He was the church treasurer for 30 years, and earned the status of elder emeritus.

His survivors include his daughter, Patricia Ann Means and husband Homer of Rogers; grandchild­ren, Sherry Sparks, David, John, Scott, Miles, and Jarod Mason; and numerous great-grandchild­ren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Alice Mason; son, Kenneth Mason; sister, Lorene Boling; and nephew, Mike Boling.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at Rollins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Bentonvill­e Cemetery.

SILOAM SPRINGS — Sherry Rena Thurman Shrum, age 59, a resident of Siloam Springs, Ark., passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, in Rogers, Ark. She was born Jan. 11, 1960, in Siloam Springs, Ark., the daughter of Ira Jay and Verna (Woodruff) Thurman.

Sherry graduated from Siloam Springs High School and received her bachelor’s degree from John Brown University. She worked as an Administra­tive Assistant for Tyson Foods.

She was preceded in death by her father Ira Jay Thurman.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Shrum; one stepson, Michael Shrum of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two sons, Jason Shrum and wife Ashley of Huntsville, Ark., and Jared Shrum and wife Katy of Siloam Springs, Ark.; five grandchild­ren, Jayden, Jonathan, Jordan, Jet and Channing; her mother, Verna Coyle and her husband Bill of Farmington, Ark.; three stepbrothe­rs, Ralph Coyle and wife Janet of Sacramento, Calif., Leo Coyle and wife Christine of West Jordan, Utah, and Jason Coyle and wife Sherry of Lovelock, Nev.

SPRINGDALE — Marilyn J. Bouchelle, 70, of Springdale died Aug. 22, 2019. That day Heaven opened its gates and welcomed the soul of our loved one after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Oklahoma City on Jan. 14, 1949, to Russell and Mary Aldredge.

She was a graduate of Central State University in Edmond, Okla., with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She was a member of the Delta Thi Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority, of which she was still active upon her death. In 1978, she was initiated into Bronze Key Chapter of Mortar Board at Central State University in recognitio­n of high scholarshi­p, leadership and service.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Byron A. Bouchelle; parents Russell and Mary Aldredge, and close friend, Jerry F. Poarch. She was a faithful member and servant at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Springdale. She was employed at Brunner and Lay in Springdale for over 30 years. She thought of everyone there as a second family. She was indeed an asset to the company.

WEST FORK — Yvonne Lee McKinley, 83, of West Fork, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Fairmont, W.Va., to Josephine Hayes and adopted by Edgar and Eva Marie Riggs Smith.

She was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Yvonne worked at Ozark Custom Butchering and Baldwin Piano.

She is survived by her husband, Ward “Mac” McKinley of 63 years; five loving children, Judy Houseman, Michael McKinley (Sandra), David McKinley (Becca), Dana Selvey and Mark McKinley; 11 grandchild­ren; and 14 great-grandchild­ren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery with military honors. A celebratio­n of life will be held at the McKinley household following the service on Friday.
