Guns not responsible for how they are used
Regarding “gun violence,” I am mightily sick of the constant misuse of language, either through ignorance or attempts at political gain. Perhaps half of the public has been taught “political correctness” in school or elsewhere. You have been taught horse manure.
We cannot solve a serious problem using misleading labels or blaming objects rather than people. As the son of a soldier, I was raised with guns in the house and taught to use them safely. Perhaps most importantly, I was taught a measure of moral responsibility. I have bought guns and have spent countless hours in gun stores and shooting ranges. Here is a news flash for you: Guns never get violent.
We are talking about gun-using violent criminals, drug abusers, brainless gang members, the mentally ill and social scum. Mass killings will not go away with improper identification or emotional, hare-brained ideas. Nor will locking you up in jail stop someone down the street from being a wife-beater. Get real. Create more gun-free zones? Brilliant! Then mass murderers need not fear return fire.
We need judges who enforce existing gun laws. We need verified background checks prior to firearms purchases, including any alcohol and drug abuse, domestic battery, serious psychological problems or a history of uncontrolled behavior. That will cost at lot of money, and we law-abiding gun owners should be willing to share that cost.
Please, if you know better, stop using misleading terminology. WIL WING Bella Vista
