■ James Lavelle Walley, 55, a paramedic for an ambulance company that provides services in Alabama and Mississippi, was indicted on sexual-battery counts after six women, including one who was pregnant, accused him of assaulting them in the back of his ambulance.
■ Breanna Dawn Hernandez, 32, who was arrested after she called police to report a drunken driver in Woods Cross, Utah, and, when pressed for more information, gave her own license plate number and started giggling, pleaded guilty to a DUI charge.
■ Mangayamma Yaramati, 74, gave birth to twin girls by Cesarean section in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh after undergoing in vitro fertilization with her 82-year-old husband, Sitarama Rajarao, who said the couple had wanted children for years.
■ Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, who told his son, Gus, during the campaign that the family would adopt a dog if Walz won, kept his promise and introduced a 3-month-old Lab mix named Scout this week as the newest resident of the Governor’s Mansion.
■ Neil Gemmell, a scientist at the University of Otago in New Zealand who worked on a project in which DNA was collected from Scotland’s Loch Ness, said the project found a surprisingly high amount of eel DNA in the water, suggesting that the lake’s fabled monster might be a giant eel.
■ David O’Connor, co-owner of Buck’s T-4 Lodge near Yellowstone National Park, said a young black bear climbed through a window in the lobby’s bathroom and “made himself at home” by curling up in a sink for a nap before wildlife officials safely moved it back outside.
