LAST MEETING UCA defeated Austin Peay, 14-13, in 1975.
WHEN UCA HAS THE BALL Look for UCA to attempt a balanced attack, relying heavily on the running of senior Carlos Blackman and junior Kierre Crossley and a passing game spearheaded by sophomore quarterback Breylin Smith. In his first game for UCA since he broke his right ankle in the fourth game last season, Smith helped lead UCA to a 35-28 victory at Western Kentucky in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 29. He completed 20 of 28 passes for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns. All of Smith’s touchdown passes went to sophomore Lujuan Winningham, who caught a total of eight passes for 222 yards. Blackman was held to 42 yards on 17 carries, and Crossley had 8 yards on 4 carries, but Blackman caught 3 passes for 61 yards and Crossley had 3 for 47 yards. Blackman also threw an 80-yard touchdown pass on one attempt. WHEN AUSTIN PEAY HAS THE BALL Senior running back Kentel Williams needed 12 carries to rush for 139 yards in the Governors’ season-opening 41-10 victory over North Carolina Central. It marked his eighth career 100-yard rushing game. Junior quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall passed for 232 yards to become the sixth player in school history to throw for more than 3,000 yards. With 1 more rushing yard, he’ll become the third Austin Peay quarterback with 1,000 or more career rushing yards and the first with at least 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing.
WHAT’S AT STAKE With a victory, UCA will have its first undefeated start through two games since 2010.
