What would insurance for gun owners achieve?

- letters@nwadg.com

I’m looking online at the comments on the column “Make gun owners acquire insurance.” A good question was posed: A criminal commits a crime, but has insurance on his getaway car. What does that insurance benefit and to whom?

To think insurance companies would be mandated to provide insurance to all who own guns and that insurance money would be used to assist the mentally ill — no insurance company would do such a thing.

Better yet, why isn’t everyone mandated to buy life insurance? Then if someone dies accidentally or gets killed by a gun, the family actually would receive money from the insurance policy. Yes, there are many forms of insurance as the writer mentioned. Who gets wealthy from insurance??

Yes, the National Rifle Association does howl every time something is brought up of infringing on the Second Amendment; it is being attacked on a daily basis. Many do not know they actually provide gun safety courses to the public and provide gun safety education to school students by voluntary enrollment.

As BBC News reports, the number of fatal stabbings in England and Wales last year was the highest since records began in 1946. There were 285 killings by a knife or sharp instrument in the 12 months ending March 2018, Office for National Statistics analysis shows. Why don’t we look at the killings in America by meat cleavers, box cutters, common knives, hammers and hands?

If America is ever disarmed, then more stabbings and other methods will occur. Disarming law-abiding Americans will never happen. JACKLYN PERRY Springdale
