Henderson State University
OVERVIEW
Founded in 1890, Henderson State University has a strong liberal arts heritage with more than 80 majors and programs. Its 14:1 student-faculty ratio ensures that students receive the personal attention they deserve. The university encourages scholarly and creative activities in a caring, personal atmosphere that reflects the university’s motto for more than a century: “The School With a Heart.” ACADEMICS
Henderson State’s three colleges help undergraduates prepare for success in their careers and communities. The Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at Henderson — uniting fine arts, humanities and social sciences, and mathematics, science and nursing. Whether working on high-tech patient simulators in the nursing program or evaluating samples at the biological field station at DeGray Lake, Henderson State students gain confidence through skilled practice.
The School of Business at Henderson State University offers Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredited degree programs in business and accounting. Students gain practice and apply what is learned in the classroom through experiences such as internships, mentorships and business-plan competitions. The School of Business hosts Arkansas’ only four-year aviation degree program with emphasis areas in professional pilot or aviation management.
The Teachers College regularly receives national recognition for the quality of the college’s mentor-teacher program for new teachers. Henderson’s secondary-educator preparation program was ranked third best in the Southern region among all education programs — both elementary and secondary. The college’s elementary-educator preparation was ranked 40th in the nation, and the K-12-educator preparation program was ranked first in Arkansas. Other undergraduate programs include dietetics, recreation, fashion merchandising, sports management, and family and consumer sciences. SCHOLARSHIPS
Henderson State University offers a wide variety of scholarships for incoming and transfer students. The application for undergraduate admission serves as the scholarship application. To be considered, students must be admitted to the university. This includes submitting an application for admission, official ACT/SAT scores and an official transcript. Early application is recommended, as scholarships are competitive. For details, visit hsu.edu/scholarships.
