Incumbent Meyers announces run for Quorum Court

BENTONVILLE — Republican incumbent Justice of the Peace Brent Meyers will seek another term on the Benton County Quorum Court.

Meyers, 77, represents District 14, which includes Lowell, Bethel Heights and the Hickory Creek area by Beaver Lake.

There are 15 Republicans on the Quorum Court. Meyers will start his eighth year on the court year in January. He ran unopposed in 2016.

Meyers is the former Benton County Tea Party chairman, according to a news release.

Funding and construction of a county courthouse and expansion of the jail are issues the county faces, Meyers said.

The Quorum Court in August unanimously approved spending $25,000 to begin design work for the court building. Justices of the peace also approved spending $10,000 for architectural drawings for a new jail pod.

Meyers will continue to push for support of the volunteer fire departments and ambulance service.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of the 14th District ensuring that they have proper representation, infrastructure in the district is properly maintained, and helping to resolve county related concerns that district residents may have,” Meyers said.

Justices of the peace serve two-year terms. The primary election is March 3, and the general election is Nov. 3, 2020.

Quorum Court members are paid $237 for each Committee of the Whole meeting and Quorum Court meeting they attend, and $148 for each meeting of another committee they serve on, according to the county.
