WEST FORK — The Farmington Lady Cardinals rode a strong defensive effort en route to the inaugural Arvest Duel at the Dome tournament title on Saturday evening at the Tiger Dome.

The Lady Cardinals (4-0) held Siloam Springs (2-1) to 25 percent shooting (6-of24) and forced 24 turnovers through the first three quarters.

Farmington coach Brad Johnson said defense is definitely one of this team’s calling cards. It was also a strong performance since the Lady Cardinals were playing their fourth game in four days.

“This group is really bought in,” Johnson said. “There’s a toughness level to them. They defend as a unit and they work really hard to be in the right spots all the time.

“I like where we’re headed. Obviously we’re not a finished product. But for four straight days, I thought we’ve been outstanding defensively and we’ve got some standard markers we want to hit with what we do defensively with field goal percentages and rebound totals. And for four straight nights we checked all those boxes. That’s pretty unheard of.”
