Jolene Daninger led six DePaul players in double figures with 16 points, and the 19th-ranked Blue Demons beat Arkansas State University on Friday at the Maggie Dixon Classic in Chicago.

The Blue Demons made nine three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 45-15 lead, and had a 29-point advantage at halftime. DePaul finished with 16 three-pointers on 42 attempts, led by Daninger’s four makes. Ten different Blue Demons attempted a three-pointer with eight making at least one.

Chante Stonewall added 13 points, Dee Bekelja and Deja Church each had 12, and Kelly Campbell and

Keke Rimmer scored 11 apiece for DePaul (3-1). The Blue Demons forced 27 turnovers and outrebound­ed Arkansas State 48-26.

Morgan Wallace scored 21 points for Arkansas State (1-3), which was 3 of 13 from the three-point line. Peyton Martin added 13 points.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN TULANE 65, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 38

The University of Central Arkansas was held to 13 first-half points Friday and finished with a season-low 14 field goals in a loss to Tulane in New Orleans.

The Sugar Bears (1-3) missed seven consecutiv­e shots in a scoring drought that lasted nearly eight minutes in the first quarter as Tulane built a 12-point lead. The Green Wave (3-2) then used a 13-point run in the second quarter to lead 33-13 at halftime.

After being held to five field goals in the first half, UCA had nine in the second half — scoring 25 points after just 13 in the first half — but Tulane shot 40% (12 of 30) from the floor to score 32 points in the second half.

Freshman Brionna Budgetts led the Sugar Bears with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Tulane got 13 points and 10 rebounds from Arsula Clark, while Krystal Freeman and Dynah Jones added 11 points each. — Compiled by Democrat-Gazette staff
