ROGERS — Melvin Crowell, 87 of Rogers, Ark., formally of Paris passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Betty G. Compton died peacefully at home in Fayettevil­le, Ark., on November 30, 2019. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, BJ “Jack” Compton; sons, Mike Compton and John Compton (Kristin) and brothers Garland, Ray and Robert Gibson. She is survived by daughter, Virginia Compton of Fayettevil­le; son, Jim Compton (Belinda) of Fayettevil­le; daughter-in-law, Melissa Compton of Little Rock; grandchild­ren, Michael Compton (Rosemary) of Little Rock, Michelle Morton of Eureka Springs, Jacquelyn Compton of Little Rock, Zach Compton (Michelle) of Fayettevil­le, John Compton of Fayettevil­le, and Jacob Compton of San Diego; and great-grandchild­ren, Ford and Spencer Compton of Little Rock, Phoebe and Jack Pittman of Little Rock, and Gianna and Ella Compton of Fayettevil­le. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of other loving friends and family.

Betty was born in Louisiana on October 4, 1927 to parents James M. Gibson and Dovey S. Gibson and grew up in Monticello, Ark. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1949. While at the university, Betty was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and a Razorback Cheerleade­r. Betty was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a Master Gardener. Betty was also a golf enthusiast and the proud owner of not one, but two trophies for a hole-in-one on the golf course, one at Paradise Valley and another at Fayettevil­le Country Club.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 2 p.m., at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cooperativ­e Emergency Outreach (ceofayette­ville.org), a group of local churches providing emergency assistance to residents of Washington County, Ark. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Reubel Funeral Home, www. ruebelfune­ralhome.com.

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Matthew Edward Swanepoel, 52, of Seligman, Missouri died November 30, 2019 at his home.

He was born August 28, 1967 in Stillwater, Minn., to Charles Emil Swanepoel and Rebecka Schmidt. He married Armenda Faye Patterson August 6, 2005 in Washburn, Mo. Matt was known for his motto of “NBD” No Big Deal and it was that positive attitude that carried him through a 2½-year cancer battle. It was that same attitude that made him loved by everyone he came into contact with. He loved his job at Englander dZignPak in Bentonvill­e where he never considered it work and was loved by all who worked with him. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to see many races. He was proud to be a cheesehead and loved his Green Bay Packers. Most of all he was a family man at heart. He loved his family and watching his girls excel in school and athletical­ly was the highlight of his life. He fought hard to be here for his girls but loved the Lord and wasn’t afraid to die because with his hope in Christ he knew he was a winner either way.

Survivors are his wife, Armenda Faye Swanepoel of the home; three daughters, Taylor Dumas and husband Alex of Rogers, Rebecca and Gracie Swanepoel of the home; his father, Charles Swanepoel and wife, Kris Bowers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Rebecka Sell and husband Marty of Rogers; six siblings, Charles Swanepoel, Eric Swanepoel, Melissa Swanepoel, Angie Swanepoel, D.J. Swanepoel and Garrett Richards; two grandchild­ren, Vaden and Brantley Dumas of Rogers; also survived by his in-laws, Clifford and Cindy Patterson and a special niece, Anna Church.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Antioch Cemetery in Jacket, Mo. Arrangemen­ts are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home.
