FAYETTEVILLE — Police arrested a man Monday night after police said he threatened to shoot a woman he argued with over a video game console.

Charles Stewart, 39, of

732 E. Edna St. was arrested in connection with aggravated assault on a family or household member, fleeing

Stewart and discharging a firearm inside the city limits. Stewart was being held Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.

Officers were sent to the home at 9:52 p.m. on a report of an armed person, according to a police report. Officers talked outside with the caller who said Stewart pointed a firearm at Carry Swimmer while they were in the house.

Officers told Stewart to come outside, and they arrested him when he did.

Swimmer told the officers she and Stewart were arguing about a PlayStation that wasn’t working properly, according to the report. Swimmer said she went into the bedroom of the house while Stewart went outside. Swimmer and Sherry Swimmer said they heard what sounded like a gunshot while Stewart was outside. The report doesn’t identify the Swimmers’ relationship.

The women said Stewart came into the bedroom, pointed a handgun at Carry Swimmer, and said several times he was going to kill her. The women said when Stewart went out the back door, they ran out of the house to call police.

The officers said Stewart’s wife, Amy Stewart, told them where to look for the gun. The report said Amy Stewart gave permission to search the backyard, and the officers found a .380 Highpoint handgun, with an empty casing stuck in the ejection port, under a porch step.
