Master Gardeners Present Drive-Through Plant Sale

The spring plant sale is one of the Benton County Master Gardeners’ most popular events, and President Andrea Klokow says that her organization is determined that it will go on — as safely as possible for the gardeners as well as the customers.

“We are having our first ever drive-through plant sale in light of the pandemic,” Klokow explains. “We went through a variety of options of how we could have a sale that would benefit the local community, and this worked for us.”

Klokow says the plan is for cars to drive through the parking lot where the plants will be arranged and choose the ones they want, with the help of a Master Gardener. Klokow emphasized that both gardener and customer must be masked; cars containing unmasked customers will be turned away. “That’s coming straight out of Little Rock — we want to minimize the risk, and it

makes people feel safe. A gardener will attend to them from the passenger side.”

The event is being held at the Cooperative Extension Services Building in Bentonville at 1204 SW 14th St. today from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Klokow says rain won’t automatically cancel the event unless it’s accompanied by lightning.

“Master Gardeners have been growing these plants and have spent weeks making sure we’re only selling our healthiest, best quality plants. We don’t want anything sold we wouldn’t buy ourselves,” says Klokow. “That’s the level of quality people can expect.”

Klokow says that more than 800 edible, perennial and native plants will be for sale. A comprehensive list of those offerings can be found on the group’s facebook page at facebook.com/bentoncountymastergardeners.

“We’re excited about it — nervous, but excited,” she says. “It’s exciting to see everything coming to life — it’s so fun.”
