Decatur gets Italian fix

- MIKE ECKELS

DECATUR — When the Gallery Cafe was forced to close its doors due to the pandemic, it left the city with only two takeout services: TNT truck stop and Handy Mart.

That may soon change, with a new food truck normally stationed in the Gravette area.

James and Linda King, along with their son Zak, brought their K’Zolis Little Oven food truck to Decatur on May 8 to see if there’s a market for Italian cuisine.

“We are in Decatur today on a trial basis for lunch,” James King said. “The chief (Grizzle) and some of the Decatur (police) officers come over to Gravette to eat with us at least twice a week and they asked us to come over and check out the market to see how it will go.”

K’Zolis set up their food truck in the corner of the Dollar General parking lot in one of the most visible spots in town, the four-way stoplight on the corner of Main Street and Roller Avenue.

K’Zolis offers a variety of Italian food from the traditional spaghetti with meatballs, chicken parmesan and chicken fettuccine Alfredo to hoagie sandwiches and garden salads to Italian nachos and Italian tacos. For persons on a diet, K’Zolis offers low-carb choices as well.Several customers phoned in orders during the few hours of K’Zolis’ operation. The Kings delivered to the customer’s vehicles when they came to pick up their meals.
