NW Arkansas Championship tees off virtual events
Aweek of virtual community events and celebration for all ages is planned as part of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. Beginning June 15, it will fill in for the postponed 14th annual LPGA tournament, which has been postponed to Aug. 24-30.
A rebroadcast of the final round of the 2014 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G will air from 1 to 3 p.m. today on local NBC-affiliate KNWA. Former Razorback golfer Stacy Lewis captured her first NWA Championship win that year.
The rebroadcast will also feature interviews with Lewis and Razorback women’s golf coach Shauna Taylor. Fans are encouraged to tune in on Sunday and share their #NWAChampionship Watch Party experiences using the hashtag #NWAChampRewind on social media.
In partnership with Walmart, June 15-21 will also serve as a celebration for the national #PlayYellow fundraising initiative in Northwest Arkansas. The national initiative raises money for pediatric care programs, and local efforts will benefit Arkansas Children’s Northwest. Organizers say: “Families are encouraged to play golf together throughout the week and share photos on social media in yellow attire using the hashtag #PlayYellowNWA. Donation
opportunities will be available for community members across the #NWAChampionship social platforms and website.”
The Walmart Women’s Empowerment Summit presented by Kimberly-Clark returns as a virtual event from 8 to 11:30 a.m. June 18. The theme of this year’s program is “Leveraging Your Unique Journey to Success.” Hosted in partnership with the region’s Network of Executive Women (NEW) chapter, this year’s event will also support the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank and its covid-19 response fund. Registration for the Walmart Women’s Empowerment Summit is open to the public and available through NEW at NEWOnline.org.
Throughout the week, individuals of all ages are also invited to participate in Miles for Mercy, a virtual community challenge supporting the Mercy Health Foundation and local healthcare workers. Participants are encouraged to track miles walked or run June 15-20, with each mile submitted equaling a $1 donation to the Mercy Health Foundation, up to $15,000, courtesy of Procter & Gamble. Registration is available online at Race-Wizard.com.
In addition to virtual events, individuals are encouraged to follow @NWAChampionship social channels throughout the week for memories from past tournaments, contests and giveaways, volunteer spotlights and more.
