Electing class clown

-

While it may have been a real hoot for grammar-school kids to teach Miss Smarty Pants a lesson by electing the class clown as president, it was no laughing matter in 2016 when nearly half of our grownup voters elected a clown to be our real president.

His clowning performances were obviously a howling success, because in virtually no time at all the entire world was laughing at him. His suitability for governing, though, was another matter, because he quickly brought us nothing but institutional destruction, widespread disrespect, domestic division, debt, and despair.

However, despite his ineptness, ignorance, and incompetence, there are still many Americans out there who think he’s doing a good job and deserves another term in office. That’s amazing. What must they be thinking?

When even little children can plainly see that the emperor has no clothes, why won’t grownups just admit their 2016 mistake and rid us of this scourge called Trump?

And then to permanently restore sane leadership and create a functioning Congress, we will ultimately need to rid our country of political parties. Had we listened to President Washington’s warning about the dangers political parties pose, a Donald Trump would likely never have happened.

Let’s set a better example of civic responsibility for our grammar-school children this November than many people did in 2016. Let’s don’t let Trump happen again! DAVID L. HENDERSON Hot Springs Village
