FAYETTEVIL­LE — Lola Bell Brown — 85, of Fayettevil­le passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in Springdale. She was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Buckeye, Ariz., to Robert Earnest and Lottie Holloway Woods.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Brown; and a brother, J.T. Woods.

Lola is survived by daughters, Valeta Craig (Gilbert) of Hazel Valley, Ark., Vidette Kennemer ( Bub) of Bronte, Texas and Velda Brown of Hazel Valley, Ark.; seven grandchild­ren; 14 great-grandchild­ren; and three great-great-grandchild­ren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2020, at Hazel Valley Church with Pastor Steve Sullivan officiatin­g. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until servicetim­e at the church. FAYETTEVIL­LE — Lloyd Lee Chambers, a Northwest Arkansas resident for 46 years, rode off into his last sunset on June 23, 2020, at age 80.

Self-described as “an old mossback,” he was born at home and grew up in Glen Roy, Ohio, to a family establishe­d in the area since pioneer times. Lloyd spent his youth pursuing higher education and teaching with a literary focus, attaining a Master’s in English. He attended Wilmington College in Ohio, taught in Memphis, Tenn., Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas, University of Texas at Austin, and he was a professor of English at the University of Arkansas, where his name can be found written in the sidewalk.

Lloyd met his future wife and mother of his children, Lynn, in Austin, Texas, later fell in love with the Ozarks, which reminded him of Appalachia­n Ohio, and here he started a family in the country.

He was easygoing, humble, imaginativ­e, quick-witted, and a great listener. He was always willing to lend a hand, loved to laugh and always found a way to be positive. He loved being outdoors. He had a love for horses, hill culture, and reflected fondly on his cowboy days. He was truly a singular man, making an impression on everyone he met.

He was preceded by father Carl; mother Dorothy; sisters Gladys, Doris and Esther, and is survived by sister Jean of Dayton, Ohio; sons Logan Chambers of Farmington, Ark., and Lathan Chambers of Little Elm, Texas; and grandchild­ren Bryson, Jocelyn, and Cadence Chambers of Farmington, Ark.

Lloyd is resting eternally in Brentwood Cemetery.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Jennie Cathleen Rowland Patrick, passed away June 25, 2020, at the age of 85. She was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Gustave and Dorothy Mae Lewis Rowland, but lived the majority of her life in Northwest Arkansas.

She attended both Greenland and Fayettevil­le schools, graduating from Fayettevil­le High in 1952. She was married to Carl Kenneth Patrick of Baldwin, Ark., on July 31, 1954, at Berry Street Baptist Church in Springdale, Ark.

In her life she worked for the Washington County court system, Happy Hollow Elementary, Mount Sequoyah United Methodist Retreat Center and Sequoyah United Methodist Church (but always her greatest career was her family).

She was a mother to four boys, a passionate gardener, an accomplish­ed cook, a talented artist and a lover of classical and 40’s era big band music.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl Kenneth Patrick and two sons, Miles Lynn of Farmington Ark., and Carl Scott Patrick of Crosses, Ark.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Kenneth Micheal Patrick of Anderson, Mo., and Andrew Joseph Patrick of Fayettevil­le; eight grandchild­ren; and 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 29, 2020, at Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayettevil­le, Ark., from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2020, Beard’s Funeral Chapel. Interment to take place at Hester Cemetery in Baldwin, Ark., immediatel­y following the service.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — David Paul Reeves, 62, of Fayettevil­le passed away on June 25, 2020, at his home. He was born in Fayettevil­le, Ark., on Aug. 26, 1957, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Aaron Samples and Ruey Gipson.

He graduated from Springdale High School and the University of Arkansas. He attended Sequoyah United Methodist Church and was an Eagle Scout.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparen­ts, Aussie and Charity Reeves; and paternal grandparen­ts, Lee and Sophie Samples.

David is survived by a sister, Susan Butts; niece, Shayla Mauer; aunt, Mary Lee Reeves; cousins Betty McKee, Vicki Church, Louetta Reeves, Jeff Reeves, Connie Corbitt and Wilda Garrett; and his friends at OGC and his church.

Services will be planned at a later date.

GREENWOOD — Jerry E. McConnell, 92, died Thursday at this home in Greenwood.

He was born in the Cornish community in what is now part of Fort Chaffee and attended Greenwood schools where he excelled in academics, football and basketball. He was offered a full football scholarshi­p to the University of Arkansas but enlisted in the U.S. Army. Jerry returned to the U of A in 1948 after discharge from the service, where he majored in journalism and graduated in 1951.

A lifelong journalist, Jerry worked as a sports and news reporter at the Arkansas Gazette and the Arkansas Democrat in Little Rock. Sports editor Orville Henry put Jerry in charge of the Arkansas Gazette’s coverage of high school sports and McConnell began the state’s first listing of top track and field performanc­es, one of the first in the nation, and later helped create the Meet of Champions in 1958. In 1995, Jerry was elected as a charter member of the Arkansas Track & Field Hall of Fame.

In 1971, Jerry became managing editor of the Arkansas Democrat; and later became president of the Arkansas Chapter of the Society of Profession­al Journalist­s, Sigma Delta Chi, became a member of the U of A Dean’s Advisory Committee on Journalism; and served on the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame board.

In 1978, Jerry moved west to become the executive sports editor of the Daily and Sunday Oklahoman and the Oklahoma City Times in Oklahoma City. During his 13-year tenure, he broke the story about the battle over the NCAA’s control of college football television rights and covered the story all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. He covered two Olympic Games — 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. In 1996, he ran the working press room in the Main Press Center of the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In 2003, Jerry was inducted into the Lemke Journalism Alumni Society’s Hall of Honor at the U of A.

In 2005, Jerry was asked to direct the oral history project on the Arkansas Democrat and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. At the age of 88, Jerry McConnell published through the Arkansas Press the book, “The Improbable Life of the Arkansas Democrat: An Oral History.”

Jerry retired to Greenwood with his wife Jo in 1992 where he quickly became involved in the community. Jerry was a founding member of the Greenwood Education Foundation, serving as president for five years. He was honored as a Distinguis­hed Alumni by the Foundation. He was proud to be an Arkansas Traveler and supporter of President Bill Clinton.

Jerry was predecease­d by his wife of 66 years, Jo McConnell; his daughter, Kevin Riley of Fort Smith; and his brother Larry McConnell of Greenwood.

He is survived by his son, Mike McConnell of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Joicie Gilbreath of Greenwood, two grandchild­ren, Jerri Riley and Dylan Riley of Fort Smith; a devoted team of caregivers; and a host of life-long friends.

A celebratio­n of the life of Jerry McConnell will be held a future date. Cremation is under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

ROGERS — Bernardino De Jesus Castillo Tejada, age 72, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 in Rogers. He was born Oct. 13, 1947, in Santa Ana, El Salvador, to Ines and Felicita Tejada Castillo.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Rosa Lidia Morales de Castillo.

Bernardino was friendly face to many, who loved to spread joy with whomever he met. No matter what he was doing he would do it with a smile on his face. He enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Guillermo Castillo, Nora Castillo, Roberto Carlos Castillo, Walter Castillo, Nestor Castillo, Natividad Castillo, Osmin Castillo and Rosa Elvira Castillo.

ROGERS — Joann Hodge, 81, of Rogers, Ark., died Thursday, June 25, 2020. She was born in Marshall, Ark., to Coy and Claudia( Ragland) Cossey.

ROGERS — Karl Ladd Inscore, age 51 years of Rogers, Ark., passed away June 22, 2020. Karl was born May 27, 1969, in Lamar, Texas, to parents Charles Inscore and Doris Hartman Inscore. He enjoyed reading, learning and spending time with his family and friends.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his significan­t other, Peggy Talbot of the home; one son, Drew Gillespie; brother, Michael Laney; sisters, Crystal Moody, Laurel Weiser, Shanna Powell; stepfather Garry Laney and a host of other relatives and friends.

ROGERS — Muriel McAdoo Laxson, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020, after declining health issues.

A former resident of Pine Bluff, Ark., for 38 years, and an employee of Internatio­nal Paper Mill for 36 years, Muriel lived her very active retirement years with her late husband Gene Laxson in Rogers, Ark., at their lake home and condo from 1994 to 2020.

Muriel’s children Saundra McAdoo, Cynthia Brennan, Stephanie Doss and Greg McAdoo will hold a Memorial Service celebratin­g her life of 89 years at First Christian Church in Rogers, Ark., with Pastor Shawn Wallace officiatin­g.

SPRINGDALE — Lonny Eugene Carlson, 63, of Springdale passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayettevil­le. He was born May 6, 1957, in St. Paul, Minn., to Mack and Beverly Bartell Carlson.

Lon’s hobbies included the raising and training of horses and children, both of which he excelled at. He worked tirelessly to make sure those he loved knew it. He played games with his 12 grandchild­ren and passed on his passion for horses to each and every one of them. Each horse he owned wasn’t worth its salt until it had a picture with every grandchild sitting astride it. He ministered at the Madison County Jail for 13 years, more commonly known as “Doc” to them. He was also a Deacon at Hindsville Baptist Church. His life centered around building relationsh­ips with strangers, which is to say, building relationsh­ips with friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cherri Finsaas and Sharlene Mekonnen.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Carlson of the home; three sons, Chad Carlson and wife Carrie of Springdale, Jess Carlson and wife Ashley of Rogers and Tyrell Carlson and wife Kanya of Fayettevil­le; one daughter, Jill Thomas and husband Heath of Springdale; his parents, Mack and Beverly Carlson of Minnesota; three brothers, Dan Carlson and wife Brenda of California, Tim Carlson and wife Iryna of Virginia and Richard Carlson of South Dakota; two sisters, Ruth Smith of Florida and Mary Ann Palin and husband Scott of Idaho.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at 10 a. m., at Cross Church Springdale.

SPRINGDALE — David Arnold King, age 56, of Springdale passed away Thursday June 25, 2020. He was born Nov. 19, 1963, in Fayettevil­le to Arnold and Jacqueline Stephenson King. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen King; three sons, Nathan King and his wife Tania of Springdale, Jason King and his wife Jessica of Springdale, Josh King and his wife Audrey of Rogers; his parents, Arnold and Jackie King of Fayettevil­le; two brothers, Steve King and his wife Tiffany of Springdale and Darrin King and his wife Debbie of Fayettevil­le; seven grandchild­ren, Natalie, Natasha, Titus, Anistyn, Harper, Grace and Ella King.

SPRINGDALE — Mark William Ledine, 54, of Springdale, passed away June 25, 2020, at Northwest Me d i - cal Center in Springdale. He was born April 26, 1966, to Wendell Ledine and Patricia Posey in Internatio­nal Falls, Minn.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother Patricia Hluchan of Springdale; wife, Kathy Ledine of the home; one son, Michael Hadley of Springdale; one daughter, Nicole King of Springdale; one brother, Scott Ledine (Phyllis) of Alabama; and three grandchild­ren, Caleb, Logan and Kylie.

He was a wonderful loving husband and papa. He enjoyed feeding the birds, landscapin­g his property and making jokes. He had special nicknames for all his loved ones. He loved going to the beach and taking care of his mother.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 5-7 p.m., at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.

SPRINGDALE — Teresa Sue Vanderboom, 66, of Springdale, died Monday, June 15, 2020. She was born Jan. 23, 1954, in Springdale to Charles “Sandy” and Mary Lucille LeBow Tripp.

Teresa enjoyed her family and friends. She was a true Arkansas Razorback fan no matter her geographic­al location when living in the other states of Nebraska and Georgia. In her younger years Arkansas games were a reason to throw a party and invite neighbors over to “Call the Hogs!” When given the opportunit­y she attended Razorback games regardless the year or the score. Despite the decline in her health she “tuned-in” and dressed up head to toe in her game gear.

She loved antiques, jewelry, Catholic medals, rosaries and knick-knacks. She loved to start and finish collection­s of all sorts. One of her finest known talents was to repair just about anything with a magic marker, super glue, scissors, needle and thread. She was a devout Catholic and stayed to true to her religion.

Teresa is survived by her mother; two daughters, Johanna Rodgers Pianalto and husband Brock, Christina Vanderboom Bell and husband Michael; one son, Thomas Sharp; one brother, Chuck Tripp and wife Cindy; and six grandchild­ren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Vanderboom; youngest daughter, Mary Jean Vanderboom; and step-father, Joseph Taldo.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2020, at St. Raphael Catholic Church.

This nonprofit organizati­on focuses on education, treatment and private counseling for teenagers and their family for drug addiction. SPRINGDALE — Elsie Grace White, 98, of Springdale, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, at The Maples at HarBer Meadows in Springdale. She was born on July 8, 1921, in Snowball to James Sarratt and Annie Cooper Sarratt.

Elsie was a homemaker. Her favorite thing to say was “oh what a mess we have made.”

She is preceded in death by her husband, Verl; two sisters; five brothers; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Lanney White and wife Joyce of Rogers, Danny White and wife Lorri of Springdale; one daughter, Verlene Mathews and husband Oscar of Bentonvill­e; two sisters, Edith Seiter of Springdale, Velta Harveston of Springdale; 13 grandchild­ren; 20 great-grandchild­ren; and three great-great-grandchild­ren.

TONTITOWN — Helen “Madelyn” McGarrah, 93, of Tontitown, Ark., passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. She was born June 4, , Hindsville, Ark., to Marion Vaughn and Cora (George) Vaughn.

She and her husband Charles were farmers and members of Cross Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; grandson, Shane McGarrah; great- granddaugh­ter, Alexis Doody; and daughter-in-law, Linda McGarrah.

She is survived by one son, Phillip McGarrah, of Tontitown, Ark.; one daughter, Janette Smithson and husband Enos of Tontitown, Ark.; three brothers, Alan Vaughn of Fayettevil­le, Ark., Sam Vaughn of Cassville, Mo., Wally Vaughn of Prairie Grove, Ark.; one granddaugh­ter, Mona Hartung of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; two step-granddaugh­ters, Dianna Jack of Tulsa, Okla., Debbie Williams of Russellvil­le, Ark.; two great-grandchild­ren, five step great-grandchild­ren; one great-great-grandchild and two step-great-great-grandchild­ren.
