Seeing the cold reality that Trump needs to go

It’s 5 a.m. A time not unfamiliar to us retired folks. A time for cold reflection and honesty. This morning, for the first time in my 74 years, I believe we have a president who does not care about Americans … whether they be Republican, white, men, straight, Godly, rich or not. Doesn’t matter. It’s all about him.

What led me to this gut feeling today? The whole mask thing and this report about bounties for dead U.S. soldiers. What kind of unfeeling person does those things? First, he does not want to wear a mask, reportedly because he doesn’t look good in it, poor baby. One can’t prove it, but we know people are getting sick, maybe dying, delaying the economic recovery he wants, and costing us taxpayers money to respond to the huge surge in covid-19 cases. As a leader, you do things you don’t want to do — you model the behavior that you want. But to him, apparently if they die, they die. Either he is uncaring or stupid. Maybe both.

The second factor for my cold assessment is the reported bounty story. The whole Russian situation stinks and has from the campaign days, and he has done nothing to disprove rumors. Trump has been soft on Russia all along. Who knows why. He won’t show tax returns or make available phone call transcripts. Is it plausible that Putin did this cruel thing? Yes, the man is a hardened KGB operative. Trump is an egomaniac narcissist reality TV star. He’s easy to play, as many world strongmen have demonstrated. If true, 20 American servicemen lost their lives. Trump does not care.

It is a cold world out there. Who knows why Trump acts the way he does? But truth be told, people are dying. Americans are dying, because this guy is vain and uncaring.

I never did get back to sleep.
