Massacre’s dead remain lost
A team works at an excavation site Tuesday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Tulsa in search of a potential unmarked mass grave from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. No signs of victims’ remains have been found, state archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck said. White residents looted and burned Tulsa’s black Greenwood district in 1921, killing as many as 300 people. Many are believed buried in mass graves.
