Made excellent points

-

I believe both James Proctor and Stephen Hoffman made excellent points in their respective letters. Proctor points out the meager resources the District of Columbia has to shore up any “statehood” claim. It seems its No. 1 asset, if it can indeed be called that, is politics or governance. If that is it, aside from local taxes, it can only spend/contribute monies collected from the rest of the country, as it is true that government makes nothing and can only spend what it first takes from others. His suggestion of D.C. becoming a county of the state of Maryland, from whence it came, seems like a good solution. Not statehood.

Mr. Hoffman’s suggestion for a statue of Madame Defarge to replace the many that are being destroyed seems appropriate, as the face of a revolution that demanded equal rights for all, then in mob fashion, stripped those very rights. TIM GREEN
