Reality TV, again

-

The election of a reality television celebrity with no political experience as president of the United States doesn’t seem to be a one-off in the minds of some Americans.

Kanye West once appeared to be an ally of President Trump. Now, the musician thinks he can replace him. And voters in Arkansas might get a chance to cast a vote in that direction.

The paper said Mr. West, of Wyoming officially, filed the papers with the Arkansas secretary of state’s office to get his name on the ballot this fall as an independent presidential contender. Michelle Tidball was listed as the candidate for vice president.

We ventured onto Mr. West’s website to see what his policy positions are and were greeted with a petition to get him on the ballot in South Carolina. That’s it. We are left in the dark about his position on trade, alliances, crime, taxes, education, abortion, or foreign wars.

But perhaps all that can come later. Election first, issues later. In this day and age, who’s surprised? Folks have been completely serious while floating presidential candidates like The Rock, Oprah, and Marianne Williamson.

If you need two years of work experience for some entry-level jobs, we ought to expect more for those who want to become president before we sign a petition putting them on the ballot. For the record, the AP said Kanye West submitted 1,723 signatures from Arkansas residents.

We’re all in reality television now.
