Garden Scavenger Hunt

-

It’s a beautiful time in the outdoors right now. Bees are buzzing, butterflies are flying, flowers are blooming, fruits and vegetables are ripening. Discover everything that’s happening outside by taking a little time to visit your backyard or garden and explore what’s going on there. Use a camera or a smartphone (ask permission first), or just take some paper and colored pencils or markers and draw what you see. Remember to be careful where you step, so you don’t harm plants. If you’re very still, you will notice even more things going on. Search for things you find interesting, and then draw them or take photos of them. You can even have a nature scavenger hunt, and record what you see.

You can even enter your photos in a photo contest like this one: The 2020 KidsGardening Summer Photo Contest is underway! Enter your photos in one of the following categories:

• Kid Gardeners - Photos of kids gardening outdoors or indoors.

• Kid Garden Activity or Lesson - Pressing flowers? Making seed balls? Show us a garden activity or lesson in or out of the garden.

• Garden Photos Taken by Kids (age 10 and under) - Giant vegetables? Cool critters? Garden selfies? This is for kids behind the camera.

• Garden Photos Taken by Kids (age 11-18) - For older kids behind the camera.

Winners selected for each of the above categories will win a $50 gift card to Gardener’s Supply Company. Ten honorable mentions will win seed collections. Entries are welcome from around the world, but only US entries will be eligible for prizes. The Summer Photo Contest is open July 21 to August 18, 2020. Winners will be announced September 1, 2020.
